Lawsuit: Utah firm and lawmaker helped Mormons hide abuse

Couple of questions…

Nelson was one of the attorneys who answered the help line and was the one who took the information about the sexual abuse occurring in the Adams home. The caller was Mauzy, who had heard Adam’s confession about the assaults he had inflicted upon his children, court records show.

I would like to see the specific material that states this.  Did Mauzy himself say this? If so, when and where? He is the second bishop, correct?

Before, I was under the impression the only confession that took place was the first daughter and the second hadn’t been born yet.  He had been excommunicated before she was born, so why would Mauzy hear a confession about assaults on both  children?

Cardinal, however, cited that according to various Arizona court cases, the right of confidentiality belongs to the “penitent,” not the clergy. “The duty of confidentiality may be waived by the penitent,” Cardinal said.

This makes sense for church leaders being questioned.  It is irrelevant to whether they should have reported it or not, of course, because the bishops were unaware he was posting online and therefore would assume Addams wanted confidentiality preserved as was the original position when he refused to go to the police when counseled to do so,

Cardigan, the plaintiffs’ lawyer claims iirc, however, that Addams showed pictures of his abuse around at his work (which I find really hard to believe he was openly sharing child porn and no one would do anything, he is the only source I have seen for this so far) and therefore the VT/Primary teacher would have been aware of the abuse…and lack of confidentiality.  Otoh, Warr’s own testimony says she only suspected abuse until Addams was arrested and the mother finally admitted it.  If she had seen pictures, it is obvious she would have known.

They want to add the mother to the suit.  I don’t understand why she wasn’t always there.  She was the other half of why the bishops didn’t report it, telling them not to, denying it happened, and refused to report it herself.  Maybe the plaintiff attorneys  thought she would be a witness for them, but her witness interview  wasn’t helpful (spacing on the correct term and it is bugging me, starts with a d I think).
