Something Very Troubling to Me, and Maybe Many Her. How With This Growing Problem?

You have a political addiction, just as surely as someone else has a cocaine addition, or an alcohol addiction, and so here you are again playing that dangerous game of political suicide.  It's like going to  a sports bar, getting plastered, and then shamelessly arguing about your favorite team.  Those are your buddies, and yet fights break out, and soon the police arrive to break it up and send everyone home.  Next morning, with a hangover, everyone wonders why their friends would treat them that way.

I recommend giving up the figurative bar and the booze, and going about more worthwhile pursuits.  Expend your energy on something which all agree is indeed a godly enterprise.  That may be an EQ assignment, an endowment session at the temple, or choir practice.

If you ever get the uncontrollable urge to discuss politics, do it in a class in political science at your local university.  Otherwise, do some genealogy instead.  You and everybody else will be much better off, and definitely much happier.

I am sorry you think so, and feel the need to say this. I was only repeating your advice, in light of your comment (that in part) caused me to ask the questions in this thread. Forgive me, but since political threads are very uncommon here, you do not know me well enough to make such a judgement. Unless we are friends on Facebook, and we are not, you only have barely a few posts, I have made here to know little of my nature. It would seem you are only lashing out, due to my comments about only one of your posts. I understand (I guess) why you are angry, but maybe you should point the finger of scorn elsewhere, as I am not your enemy. You do not know me well enough to make any judgements about me, in fact you don’t know me at all. If you did, you would not make such a reckless judgement, as I don’t know you, which is why I only addressed you one previous comment. However this vitriol, over little to nothing. All I really know of  you, is that your knowledge of Gospel topics and history, assures me that you are very educated, and I enjoy your posts on the Gospel and Theology very much. I have also used your research, and quotes when debating on other websites. Your obvious education, and ability to express your views are among the best on this website. So this harsh outburst from someone so posed confuses me, and nothing I would ever expect. Also, I still look forward to your threads and posts, as (again) you are, or appear to me, to be both well educated, and a wonderful addition to this website. I am sorry, if just a few between us about the political, has somehow made us enemies, if so, not on my part. I will tell you, I am not have “an addiction”, just views, as do all men and women, which is the nature of all mankind. Anyway, I look forward to your threads and comments about the Gospel, however (obviously) not another post like this one. I will also be quaking in fear, for any rep points you might receive for this post, as I would be heartbroken if anyone agrees. Because if this post gets only one, I fear my soul could not bare it. Anyway, I plead your forgiveness.

Sorry you take this so personally, Bill.  My post applies to everyone on this board who gets enmeshed in political discussions here.  We should not have political discussions here at all.

You say "political threads are very uncommon here," and you are correct.  Why?  Because they don't end well.  Feelings get hurt or ruffled.  This board is definitely not the place for political discussion.  If you'll resist the urge, so will I.  If not, well, we can go at it again.  8)

I understand, and I do wish to never see another. But what you said was painfully personal and directed at me, and something I would never expect from someone so well spoken, and obviously well educated. In fact you not only directed it at me, but called me “addicted”, and made references to (metaphorically) visiting a type of bar to feed that addiction. Of course I am not quoting you verbatim, but it was very personal. I get that one or two suggested that the answer is no “political threads”, but your last comment suggests that I hurt you deeply. For that, and the need to lash out like this, I am truly sorry, it is not in my nature to hurt someone that deeply, or deliberately. So, please forgive me, as I truly mean it, I am sorry, and often look forward to your threads and posts, the one where you said some very harsh things, being the exception. In the future, if anything political pops up again, I will just bow out completely. Maybe even break my fingers so I can’t type. So, without a doubt, I will “resist the urge”. In fact, I have have been cutting back on my activities here lately, or trying to just post in the Social Forum. Much of my inactivity, is to do with my increasing difficulty in the way I have to post, and a lot to do with illnesses, including difficulty seeing, due to my diabetes. But, it would seem at times as if I should, “throw in the towel” altogether. Not to mention the embarrassment of my many errors due to my lack of education, and trying to post on an iPad with one eye closed. Also, if I stop posting, or reduce posting as much, I can’t harm another’s feelings, Because you don’t know me well, hurting someone else, no matter how, wounds me to the core. My Mother and Grandmother always told me that I had a gentle soul, if I just saw disappointment in their eyes, I would fall apart. An odd trait for a retired soldier, and a retired police officer, as I could turn on the more hardened side when needed. So maybe it was “turned on”, when I upset you, who knows?

Anyway, as always will look forward to you Gospel and History threads, hope this finds you well.
