Rivers Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 It's been a while since I've spent much time on this board or anything of the sort. I believe that I have reached a place in my faith journey where I am comfortable and content. Thus feeling less of a need to come online and wrestle with all the different issues within Mormonism. Its actually a really nice feeling. I have spent a considerable amount of time reflecting on why I am still a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The best answer I could come up with is that I feel too attached to the church to ever want to leave. The feel a strong affinity to the church, not so much as an institution, but as a body of people. I would argue that the social aspect of the church is actually a fundamental aspect of Mormonism. My day-to-day lived experience as member of the church has increased my faith and love for the gospel. The angry people who bash the church in comment sections only push me further into the church's corner because I want to distance myself from them. I have also started to think less about the minutia of historical and scientific issues and more about the ideas of Mormonism. I often hear critics of Islam speak the ideas or ideology of the religion as being dangerous. It got me thinking about Mormon ideology. I believe the merits of an ideology can be measured by the actions and behavior of its followers. "By their fruits ye shall know them." I believe the that the church's teachings contribute a net positive to society. Any thoughts? 1
