toujours Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I've been accepted onto the Summer Seminar on Mormon Culture with Terryl Givens at the Maxwell Institute this summer. This year it's title is 'Organizing the Kingdom: Priesthood, Church Government and the Forms of LDS worship', with further information - 'more specifically we will study LDS ecclesiology, focusing on the origin and development of church organisation, the evolution of public worship services and practices, and related topics'. At the end we have to present a paper we've written in a public symposium. If anyone has hints or links to things to read in preparation, or to potential novel avenues for study I'd be most grateful. Also, I'm from Scotland and am coming over with my wife and two kids. We have to organise our own accommodation for the duration - June 14 to July 23. If anyone has any hints or links for finding a place to stay during that time I'd be even more grateful. To really push the boat out if anyone knows anything about renting cars cheap we'd be into that too. Thanks for any and all helps!
Calm Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Well, if we weren't in the midst of trying to get the house back together plus may have family with us at that time...still uncertain, we might have a place for you if you could get a car as we are off the bus system...I will let my husband know and see if he can come up with any suggestions (he is a UVU prof familiar with a lot of people in the area). 2
Ham Clam Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 That's awesome that you get to go to the seminar! Tell us how to goes.
The_Monk Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) I'll be there, but doing the NT Seminar. http://www.byunewtestamentcommentary.com/2015-summer-seminar/ I know someone else doing the Givens Seminar, though. BTW, tried to send you a PM, but doesn't work with your profile. Edited May 4, 2015 by The_Monk
toujours Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Oh wow! Lucky you! If I could start again I would study things that could qualify me for that. It's amazing how much my interests have changed and my horizons have been broadened over the last few years. I don't know how to make PM's work
Calm Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 You need to have 25 posts...I would suggest going and posting 11 times in the three word story thread if there aren't any other threads you want to get heavily involved in. 1
Calm Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Or given the special circumstances I don't think the mods would mind you posting a bunch of posts with numbers or emoticons in this thread to up your number quickly...just dont do it in another thread where it might derail the thread or tick someone off.
toujours Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 That's me made it to twenty-five if you want to try again The Monk. Thanks very much for the info calmoriah, you're a gem.
Antoni Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Wishing you a blessed time toujours! Would love to read your paper when it's completed.
