Alan Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 Actually the main objection I have is one the missionaries do not face. I refuse to pay the author money for the book. The missionaries give away the Book of Mormon. Ask your local library to order it in for you.
The Nehor Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Ask your local library to order it in for you.Nah, that would be encouraging the taxpayers to buy the book.
SmileyMcGee Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) I'm not going to bother answering these comments. You are obviously close minded on this, and are not even willing to read the book before passing judgment. The missionaries come across this kind of thing all the time.Alan, Nehor is just giving you his two cents about the book not insulting your mother. Unless you're the author I don't see any reason to get defensive. Just ignore him...or discuss his idea that God caused the civil war because a few frontier communities mistreated the saints. An idea which, ironically, has probably less evidence than Lincoln secretly using the BOM to guide his presidential decisions. You could always play the trump card with him and tell him that you received divine confirmation the that Lincoln Hypothesis is true. Edited April 12, 2015 by SmileyMcGee
Alan Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 Nah, that would be encouraging the taxpayers to buy the book. They will already have the book in the system, probably sitting on a shelf in another library (so it's already been purchased). If you order it they'll just get it sent over for you.See, it's easy. Hopefully you can them come here with some comments worth reading.
Stone holm Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Surely Lincoln would have been aware of the Book of Mormon given the fact that the two main planks of the Republican Party at the time dealt with slavery and poligamy. I have never heard any credible evidence from any historian that Lincoln was a Mormon sympathiser. Until Joseph made the tragic blunder of allowing himself to be put forward for the Presidency, the Mormons were the swing vote, but that was before the Republican Party existed. It was my understanding that they had an early alliance with Douglas, but that Douglas was supposedly told of political doom should he betray them. The latter point may be folklore. Lincoln had been a Whig. My guess would be he left Brigham Young alone because he already had a war on his hands.

Alan Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Nah, I have more important things to do like catching up on my Netflix queue. I rest my case.
The Nehor Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I rest my case. That was a joke. Like cinepro said the book just does not make the cut and I say this as a voracious reader. I usually read 3-5 books a week. given the choice between this book and the books I currently have waiting (one on the Spanish civil war, one on papal history, one on medieval demonology, two books written by apostles, two books by Brandon Sanderson I have not gotten to yet, two Lovecraft anthologies, and at least a dozen more I cannot remember this book ranks really low. It is not being unwilling to read; it is prioritizing what I read.
Alan Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 That's fine.I'm not saying you've got to read it.I'm saying you need to read it if you want your comments regarding the book to be taken seriously.

The Nehor Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Seriously?Depends on whether Saturn is in ascendancy.
