He didn't just go ballistic and throw a tantrum.  Dehlin actually managed to prevent publication.  He spread the false rumor that it was "hit  piece," which it clearly was not -- which we realized, once we finally got to read it.

 

Here is a guy who innocently asks why he is being persecuted, but (when he got the chance) was only too happy to censor or persecute someone else.

 

This tells us a great deal about his value system, in which a Grant Palmer is worth a Richard Bushman . . .

(But watch out; someone is going to accuse you of "playing fast and loose" because Mister Dehlin didn't say it. Sure, he agreed with the person who suggested to him that it represents his "exchange rate," but he was only joking. Or something.)

But it remains a fascinating equivalence. Richard Bushman, a serious historian and significant scholar, is weighted the same as a collector of old gossip, whose one and only original contribution to Mormon letters was to make the leap from Hofmann's forgery about a salamander, to Hoffmann's tale of a salamander who hired a young man to copy some books in his library.

And who never quite managed to remove all the traces of his dependence upon the younger Hofmann's forgeries, despite all the years he had to work over his anti-Mormon propaganda piece.

I don't doubt that Mister Dehlin could have provided the same retort not so long ago, too.

I can see that we have reached an impasse.

I stand by my view, expressed above: not only does no informed Latter-day Saint expect "same sex temple marriage," no Latter-day Saint who knows the difference between right and wrong comes anywhere near wanting it; or regarding it as anything less than a repulsive, disgusting notion.

And you disagree.

So, since there's no point us losing our tempers over something that isn't going to happen, I suggest we agree not to discuss this matter any more.

The impasse is that you wish to state a claim as fact and won't provide a reference for it. You continue to use these boards to slander people while seemingly placing yourself on a pedestal.

You are right though... No reason to lose one's temper. I don't really even see a reason to continue to dialogue since your focus on attacking me and Dehlin does nothing to further the cause of the gospel or mutual enlightenment. It just tends to bring us all down.

Since you've shown a willingness to misrepresent me and Dehlin, I see no need to place any weight on your statements about Palmer or others.
