Elder Oaks emphasized that part of religious freedom is being able to act, and voice our opinions in the public square. Are we truly free if every time we try to act or voice our opinions, we're labeled as bigots, and slammed with legislative or police action? of course not. But if religious freedom entails trying to discriminate and thus withhold rights (like marriage) from functioning and contributing members of society do not complain when someone calls it like they see it--bigotry. If we do as advocated by Oaks and you, it seems, we'd be under a big battle in that a group of gays can get together, make their religion and exclaim without reservation that Mormons shall be discriminated against as per their religious beliefs. Simply put we cant hide behind the claim of religious freedom when we discriminate and not have to bite us back on the butt. It is just as much a right for someone to think LDS are bigots as it is for LDS to think gay people are practicing immoral works. one is coming from a religious perspective the other is coming from a secular and equal rights perspective.
