webbles Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 It's been more than 5 decades since state officers across the nation were required to perform marriages for interracial couples ... and yet still no drive to force purely religious officials to do so. If you can point to a reason why SSM will be different than interracial marriage please do. Otherwise, I'm on very safe ground.I keep hearing this and it has made me curious. Have there been cases where an interracial couple tried to get married by a church and was denied?
carbon dioxide Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I think that eventually any religion that refuses to perform same-sex marriages will lose its power to perform civil marriages. LDS couples will then have to be married in a civil ceremony by a state official, then get sealed in the temple.Perhaps LDS can just skip the civil ceremony and get sealed in the temple. Real marriage is when God joins man and woman together. Temple sealing is a priesthood ordinance. We don't ask for permission by the government to baptize so why should we seek permission from the government to marry. I don't think Abraham got a civil marriage license before he got married to Sariah.
Chaos Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 There have been too many offensive comparisons in this thread.
