Studios is filing suit against Intellectual Reserve, Inc (the coporatate entitiy of the Mormon Church holding copyrights). Warner Bros. claims that the LDS church has recently stolen and used a number of protected elements related to the "Good Cop, Bad Cop" character from the hit film The Lego Movie. In the film a character plays two roles, one a good cop offering to be kind and accepting, and another character who is agressive and fights its enemies. In one such scene he offers a captive a glass of water, only to then knock the water from him. Warner Bros. claims that the LDS church as a corporation has been lifting this protected story element and applying it in its dealings with it's members. In a recent church-wide address, Elder Dieter F. Utchdorf (who WB claims is the chruch's oft used "good cop") told doubters and questioners in the chruch "there is room for you here." But then recently two prominent doubters and questioners in the church were called into disciplinary councils to face possible excommunication. "It's clear people in the chruch office building have seen the movie," a lawyer from Warner Bros. said. "The film is not rated-R, and it doesn't have a pro-homosexual agenda like that Disney movie did. Plus it's animated. So, yeah, they saw it." Warner Bros lists several instances of "Good Cop, Bad Cop" performed by the church. Good Cop often comes in the form of Dieter F. Utchdorf, the chruch's LDS Newsroom, unsigned essays quietly released on the lds.org website, or quotes from past prophet Gordon B. Hinkley. Bad cops come from plenty of other sources. The suit lists the following as one example: "Good Cop: Mormons and Gays website vs Bad Cop: Boyd K. Packer talks on Homosexuality"It also shows examples of "Good Cop" quotes of tolerance and accepatance of other beliefs contrasted with "Bad Cop" quotes from Dallin H. Oaks refering to atheists and modern-day anti-christs. We have reached out to the leadership of the chruch for comment, but none have returned calls or have spoken on the suit... but we have recevied word that a non-prophet-seer-revelator from the church's PR departement will be making some non-binding statements on the matter soon. We have also heard rumor that the legal department of the LDS church may be filing a counter-claim saying the Good Cop, Bad Cop was developed by the church long before the lego movie, citing such examples as Joseph Smith and Porter Rockwell. Good Cop, Bad Cop has been around for a very long time. If anything, Warner Bros. lifted that idea from many other movies and TV shows. It's included in Wiki, and there is a list of movies with this theme. Just check out google. Where is this coming from? Large corporations often have a special group specific to trademark and copyright issues. These guys are trying to find something to justify their jobs. Edited June 17, 2014 by cdowis 1

The so-called "bad cops" of the Church aren't actually bad cops at all, they still have love for others, but they are direct in the realities of sin and vice.Bad would be bad, there is no "bad" in the words or actions of these men such as in the bad cop lego man. That is like one muslim sect sueing another muslim sect for using the noun "muslim" The "other organization" is a business using "Mormon" as a means to make money on the association. It is only "silly" if you are ignorant of the facts. There are other religious organizations which are untouched by the lawsuit.
