Should The Church Stop Performing Legalmarriages?

Its only fallacious if it never happens.

In logic and critical thinking, a slippery slope is a logical device, but is usually known under its fallacious form in which a person asserts that some event must inevitably follow from another without any rational argument or demonstrable mechanism for the inevitability of the event in question.

I am not sure we live in the same dimension.

Let me rephrase that in a way that hopefully shows a bit more humility on my part. I don't know of a time where that has ever happened. Can you give me an example?

And only perform sealings after state-recognized unions?

Then it will be less exposed to legal action that would force it to perform same-sex marriages

Yes. While the likelihood of the Church being forced to to perform ssm is, to me, nonexistent in the United States; the less a Religion is beholden to the State the better. Edited by frank_jessop

Some one in the UK just married their dog. So...... we are on our way I guess.

Everything that TSS says can just be ignored he simply just doesn't know what he is talking about.

Was it recognized by the state?  If not, don't think that is much of a change…didn't one of the Caesars marry his horse?

So what happened to the promises from the Left that churches will not be forced to perform same sex marriages?  Can't we rely on them?

That's pretty hilarious. Relying on promises from hardline agitators?

Besides, that's what law and constitutions are for, to put in writing what the law is, etc. or else who cares about law?  The ones with power make the rules if the letter of law isn't upheld.

Might as well go back to tribalism--well, we're pretty much there anyway.

I don't know, most other first wiles democracies are doing pretty good - it seems the US is the struggling governance under the current two party system!

A valid critique of US govt is not a critique of all govts. Many other govts don't have the same issues the US government currently has.
