Nobody would say that giving birth is a good thing at the time, we only want a swift, successful end to it. The resulting child is a blessing, making the travail worth it, even though any sane person might wish that getting the child here any other way might be preferable. So it is with knowledge, which you rightly point out is accelerated during wartime. Knowledge is the "child", war is the birthing process, as sickening as that looks....
