The history of the ban, the general racial attitudes at the time and those specifically of the leadership can bring me to no other conclusion. Now why the Lord didn't teach the church that racism is bad leads to the bigger question of whether or not prophets are as they claim, the mouthpiece of the Lord.I think that the term racism is too strong a word for that context. I would prefer the word prejudice. I don't think that church leaders or members were racist. But some were prejudice. Racism implies a too strong connotation. But it does work within critic circles to use this word. But I think members should be careful in using this word to describe the church membership or leadership of the church.
why me Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 You lack perspective on what that decade actually meant. Huge changes took place, not only in America in general, but even in the deep South. You can go back and consult with the polling organizations which probed for racial opinions during that entire half century. Attitudes really changed substantially. I am a personal witness to that fact.I don't think that you are correct in this. I saw no changes in attitudes in the American population by 1978. However changes were occurring in the deep south but we also need to remember that George Wallace still had huge support until he was shot. All in the Family was still a mirror into American society back in 1978. And if one was black back then, they may see things a bit differently from you.
