EllenMaksoud
Both sides of my family are from the UK some time in the late 1600's, so I have always felt a fascination with the place. I've a friend there who lives near Cardiff, Wales, and he has promised me a months free Apartment when I get there. All I would need to do is pay the utilities and buy my own food. The offer sounds charming. My friend is not LDS, but he knows that I am. We are both amateur writers.Another friend told me that the Brits have the highest alchohol consumption of any European Union country. Well, I can control my own consumption. I do understand that it is quite costly to live there. So, I am wondering if anyone knows how active the church is there, and if anyone has information about that locale. Link to comment
Calm
If I got this to work right, the map should show the number of meetinghouses with how many wards are meeting in each so you can get a picture of how dense the Church is in the area:http://www.lds.org/r...nd&tools=layersIf not, go to this link and type in Cardiff, Wales and then go over to the icon that looks like layers of paper over on the right side (it's named "map layers"), click on "meetinghouses" in the map layer menu list and it should show the result I posted above:http://www.lds.org/r...d&find=advancedIf you click on the little building icons on the map, it will tell you what the name of the ward/branch is and the location and time of meetings. There is some info on church activities in the UK here: http://www.lds.org/ensign/2012/09/uk-members-celebrate-queens-diamond-jubilee-with-day-of-service?lang=eng&query=cardiff or http://www.lds.org/c...g&query=cardiffHere is the News link for the UK: http://www.lds.org/c...=eng&country=gbFacts and stats for UK: http://www.mormonnew...united-kingdom/ Edited November 11, 2012 by calmoriah 1 Link to comment
Somebodyz
Good luck. Wales is beautiful, but can be quite cut off, though Cardiff is the capital of Wales and quite a built up area, being a city.Travelling here isn't like in America. If you get into the countryside in Wales, the roads will be very narrow and twisting, with not enough sign posts. But worth it, it's so beautiful.Hubby says the membership in the Cardiff is quite strong, but that is strong compared to UK not US numbers, so probably 150 to 200 attendance at sacrament.I'd ask your friend for advice about areas to stay clear of. Drinking can be a problem around some pubs at closing time. It's never been a problem for us, (apart from 5 years in the States) I've live in the UK all my life. City centres tend to be problem areas in some places. Edited November 11, 2012 by Somebodyz Link to comment
