I have food, gold, guns, and ammo. I intend to die with my guns directed outward from the crenelations in my wall made of gold ingots and an open can of Stagg's Chili, half eaten, by my side.

Gold and guns and ammo, Oh My! Sounds like you're ready to shoot anything that moves. Who do you trade with then?

You are arguing with the liberal economic monetary understanding. If you need more money just print more. There seems to be no understanding that something must have some value either true value within itself or intrinsic value. Paper money only has value because of the full faith and credit of the issuing entity. When there is no longer any faith in the issuer it become worthless. Gold has some true value because of its other uses in manufacturing and for jewelry and adornment. Gold has always had some true value.

From the simple expedient that conservative economic policy never works. I am a classic Keynesian in that respect. Save in good times so you can spend in bad.

I never said just print more money. There needs to be substantial reason(s) for any fiscal policy. IE; Paper money lasts only about 6 months in circulation. So by definition to maintain the same money supply you must print more money. Add in to maintain the money supply in a growing population you must print more money. Add in that most people prefer a modest rate of inflation compared to stagnant wages there again you must print money just to keep pace with demand. There is that old supply and demand thing again.

The only things that have intrinsic value are human beings, and other living things. Everything else is subjective. That doesn't mean that those subjective valuations aren't rational. Anytime we buy anything we are using subjective but rational valuations about what we purchase. What is the maximum we are willing to pay any given item, and what is the minimum amount other party is willing to accept as payment? We can bargain back and forth as to establish what that amount is. But it is the end still the maximum amount we're willing to pay, and the minimum the other party is willing to accept. When we agree we shake hands/sign the contract, and everyone is happy.

The uses of gold for anything other than in a few high tech manufactured products and/or ornamentation are rather limited. Gold is nonreactive soft metal, and infinitely recyclable. It is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity, but few if any, would use gold as wiring for their homes or for every day pots and pans. Copper is much more common and is almost as good for those and many other purposes. Microscopic layers of gold are used in some circuits on microchip boards, and sensor connections of air bags. Plus a few other industrial uses.

Gold has no true value independent of other considerations. Let's not make Gold our God.

Although gold has no immediate worth (food, clothing, fuel) during a natural disaster, its value will transition from one economic system to another. Printed currency has no "natural transitional value."

Yawn. No one in in this thread is doing that Saint. I am tired of the pissing contest with you. You simply don't know what you are talking about when it comes to economics. Good day
