Dissent- It Came Time For Me To Put Up Or Shut Up.

To anyone still following, I'm not hung up on the idea of being some renegade dissident. After a good deal of study and thought it is my opinion that there is definitely a way to righteously dissent within the church. There is also a horribly wrong and destructive way.

Dissent is a loaded word. And until we come up with another word or phrase it is going to be difficult to even have a useful discussion about how we express our "issues" and how we seek to resolve them.

Bad=dissent

Good= something else we don't have a word for yet.

Big UP!

Lamanite, the good, or at least neutral word is 'disagreement.'

Nonetheless, I'd still take everybody else's advice and go through the Bishop. While it might not be the case with yours, most Bishop's I know are rather pragmatic about this sort of thing, and they'll find a good solution, even if it's not quite the one you are trying now. So while there is the possible chance they might leave it, there is a good chance they'll fix it for you, if you talk to them.

There must be order in the church or else it all deteriorates into chaos. Most can use practice in patience.

I think an excellent term is nonconformer or attempts to promote diverse solutions, opening up options of value, expanding choice with the appropriate limits....all terms that generally avoid the emotional connection between dissent and discord that most people feel.

You need to come up with some crusader name....like "the amiable dissenter"or so on in order to counter act the negative aspects and promotes the positive ones. I'd suggest Zionist, but that's has dibs on it.

Unfortunately, in the Book of Mormon, dissent refers to groups like the Amalakiahites and the Zoramites who left the Nephites and provoked the Lamanites to attack. You've got a serious uphill battle, maybe even a Syssiphian task if you wish to reclaim the term, but I wish you well. I have a soft spot for gloriously impossible quests.

Cooperation is an essential part of grassroots movement. If you focus too much on dissent, at best you can stop something, but for bettering people's lives you need positive contribution through cooperation.

The Cooperative Dissenter or the Unifying Dissent or Harmonic Progressive.
