Bob Oliverio Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 http://m.christianpost.com/news/marco-rubio-says-he-felt-called-to-leave-mormon-church-for-catholic-church--77156/
Buzzard Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 God doesn't call people away from the restored gospel, but sometimes well-meaning folks feel that way. Witness David Whitmer. I think it would be unkind second-guess the feelings of a 12 year old after so much water under the bridge since that moment.
Robert F. Smith Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 What does bilingualism have to do with anything?Maybe Oliverio thinks that Rubio's bilingualism has the same cachet as his bispiritual background. Or maybe he is just being clever by half. 1

If Rubio was baptized at eight, left at 12, and doesn't come back before he dies; does that mean he missed his chance at the celestial kingdom? Edited June 25, 2012 by inquiringmind
inquiringmind Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) Looks like Rubio was baptized into the LDS Church when he was around eight.http://abcnews.go.co...rmon-childhood/If he doesn't return before he dies, wouln't he be what's called an apostate?Wouldn't that mean (at best) that the terrestrial kingdom would be the highest open to him?(And wouldn't the same apply to David Whimer?) selek1 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Or maybe he is just being clever by half.Robert, I'm only human. Please don't put temptations like that in my path.

Robert F. Smith Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 How do you know that David Whitmer was well meaning?Wasn't he one of the origunal disenters?Didn't he accuse Joseph of being a fallen prophet? If he really saw the gold plates, heard an angel, and knew that Joseph was a prophet, wouldn't he have been expected to remain close enough to God to know whether or not Joseph was still being led by God at the time he made such acusations? How is it possible for him to be ""well meaning"?We are talking about humans, Inquirer, just humans.David Whitmer was a prolific letter-writer and record-keeper, and he was also very influential. A number of Whitmerite churches owed their existence to his influence. It is quite possible to be a nice, well-meaning person who disagrees with others. Some, like David Whitmer, felt that Joseph's gift from God went only as far as the Book of Mormon. Others, like Oliver Cowdery (who married David's sister Elizabeth), felt that Joseph went too far in his economic plans (the United Firm). Some of these later repented and were rebaptized (Oliver Cowdery & Martin Harris, for example). Others rejected polygyny and the Apostolic succession and formed the Reorganization (RLDS), led by Joseph Smith III.The Lord tested the Saints many times, and some dropped by the wayside. Most, however, remained faithful, so that the Exodus west to the Great Basin was made by a large number of hard core believers -- among them my pioneer ancestors. Without them, Mormonism would never have been a success.P.S. If Rubio was baptized at eight, left at 12, and doesn't come back before he dies; does that mean he missed his chance at the celestial kingdom?Of course not. Mormonism isn't built upon such a brittle and shallow foundation. Had that been the case, it would never have survived and flourished. 1
Robert F. Smith Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Isn't it LDS doctrine that sincere tinvestigators will always be led to accept the restored Gospel?I know of no such doctrine, Inquirer. In any case, it depends on what you call "sincerety." If being sincere means that one will always respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, then truly sincere investigators would always be led to accept the restored Gospel. However, since we are dealing with imperfect humans, it may not always be that simple. 1

I was referring to his statment that the voice of God told him to seperate himself from the Latter Day Saints. I don't beleive that the voice of God told him that, but he apparently did, and sincerely so.As to Rubio, I am not smart enough nor in tune with the will of God enough to make the call on a 12 year old leaving. Past the age of accountability, but obviously still a minor, with all that entails. Besides, he is young enough that he may still repent and return to the restored gospel. And he won't even need to be baptized again.
Hamilton Porter Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 http://m.christianpo...-church--77156/If he feels called to rejoin the Catholic Church, he should rejoin the Catholic Church. If I feel called to dissuade him from leading the LDS, I will dissuade him from leaving the LDS.I am not bi-spiritual but spiritually bi-curious.
Hamilton Porter Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 What does bilingualism have to do with anything?Rubio is bilingual, that's it.
