Yo, Mods! New Sub-Board Request

Way back in the day, I asked for, and was granted, a non-argumentative social sub-board on this site. Hey, whaddya know, this would be that sub-board. (I forget what user name I was using back then; the site also has transferred management at least once, right?)

Well, how about we have one more sub-board? One where "in-house" discussions and, possibly, arguments can be made. A place where ex- and anti-Mormons are actively discouraged or barred from participating in.

Just a thought.

Only if you have dropped the "not for debating" descriptor... have you?

I guess what I'm aiming for is a place where members of the church can discuss or debate without having to defend the fundamentals of the faith from antagonists.

Log,

I like the idea but I think part of the problem is simple logistics. Who gets to decide how to define an active member or which fundamentals go undisputed?

During my time here, I have encountered actively attending LDS who no longer believe and excommunicated LDS who believe fully. Even among those who consider themselves active, believing, LDS, there are those who take everything literally, those who are mystics, and those who see more metaphor and less historicity. Limiting the discourse might eliminate some of the voices you'd rather not hear but it might also eliminate voices that add beautifully to the conversation.

How would you propose to execute this new sub-forum plan?

It would be on the honor system at first, and if certain posters decide to participate and show antagonistic tendencies towards the fundamentals of the faith, say, for example, towards the prophethood of Joseph Smith, the historicity of the Book of Mormon, and so forth, they would be barred from participating in that sub-forum.

Focused Discussions does not seem to be fullfilling a need but if ,in that forum, the banning of certain posters by the OP was permitted ,that might serve your idea. One would not need to be invited to participate, but could be ' invited' to leave.
