Anyone Know What Language This Is?

A friend has some keepsakes that he just inherited. They are from some of his Jewish ancestors (he believes they are from during WWII). One of them has this writing on it. The first picture is the object; the second is his attempt at copying it. Some of it almost looks Coptic to me, but I’m far from an expert at these types of things. Anyone able to read it?

Steuss, my first thought is that these figures might have to do with amulet writing. I'll try to track some examples down. Could you possibly provide any more information such as what area they were from? Also, is the object a watch or is it simply a medallion?

I asked him if there was any more info he could provide. Evidently I misunderstood (sorry); he doesn't have any Jewish ancestors, he just assumed it had something to do with Judaism because of the time-frame, and the star.

He’s pretty sure it’s an NAAFI medal that was blank for some reason (as it was in a NAAFI medal box). It belonged to his great uncle, who served in WW2 (also in Africa and the Middle East). Below is the other side of it:

This also belonged to the same great uncle (if it helps narrow down anything on the medal):

There were also a few other medals that he inherited (The Defense Medal, The Africa Star, the 1939-1945 Star, and The Italy Star).

Sorry, I cannot read a blank medal.
