Speaking In Tempe, Arizona, On Sunday Night

In case anybody's interested:

I'm going to be speaking on Sunday night in the LDS Institute at Arizona State, more or less about the Church and the Islamic world.

I found an Ensign article entitled, "A Latter-day Saint Perspective on Muhammad."

http://www.lds.org/e...hammad?lang=eng

"... Elders George A. Smith (1817–75) and Parley P. Pratt (1807–57) of the Quorum of the Twelve

Apostles delivered lengthy sermons demonstrating an accurate and balanced understanding of

Islamic history and speaking highly of Muhammad’s leadership. Elder Smith observed that

Muhammad was “descended from Abraham and was no doubt raised up by God on purpose” to

preach against idolatry. He sympathized with the plight of Muslims, who, like Latter-day Saints, found

it difficult “to get an honest history” written about them. Speaking next, Elder Pratt went on to

express his admiration for Muhammad’s teachings, asserting that “upon the whole, … [Muslims]

have better morals and better institutions than many Christian nations.”

"In response to the interfaith dilemma raised by the Church members in Los Angeles, I was grateful

to state that we belong to a church that affirms the truths taught by Muhammad and other great

teachers, reformers, and religious founders."

I wonder if Elders Smith and Pratt would have altered their speech if they read the Koranic verses

where Muhammad denies the Sonship of Christ and his death and resurrection. These were some

of the "truths" taught by Muhammad.

just returned from listening to Daniel C. Peterson here in Tempe and of course he did a great job. I was surprised that a young man from Tehran Iran asked about obtaining a Book of Mormon translated in Farsi because the current one is missing 5 chapters and is translated incorrectly. I just moved to AZ from Utah and actually know a man who is part of the group that is currently translating the Book of Mormon to Farsi. I have of course messaged my contact and I got the contact info for the young man who needs the book. I feel I was in the right place at the right time tonight. I hope we can get him his book very soon....hoping the translation process is done or at least I can give him an update.

Dan, terrific presentation. Do you have a cite or source I can refer to for the quote attributed to Jesus: I have raised the dead but I cannot cure an idiot?
