I Lost A Good Jewish Friend…

His name was Martin Schneider, he worked for me a number of years (although much older) we were goods friends and had many conversations about our beliefs. He was not religious, but like many he grew up in a very religious environment. He was from Brooklyn, NY. His Rabbi was a very good friend and he was buried according to Jewish tradition. By the time I was gotten in touch with it was too late to go to his funeral.

So I wanted to know something about his burial and I found this on a Jewish website…nothing disturbing at all but very beautiful indeed; as well the many things in common with some of our rituals. This is a wonderful video and learning experience, so I just wanted to share. Comment if you like, but no debate. I have helped prepare two of my brethren for their burial; it is a very sacred thing. Note how our Jewish sister speaks of what it means to serve in this capacity.

Be in prayer for the Schneider, family. Everyone loved him so much. He was 84.

What a blessing.

That is sad, TNTzBH (May his soul be bound up in the bond of everlasting life). Place a pebble on his tombstone, that is how you honour a Jewish grave.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, PaPa.

That video was very interesting, though. I did not know about the burial traditions of the Jews.

I used to stop in a large cemetery to have lunch when on the road on in the City. It was quiet and beautiful there. There was an overlook where you could see the skyline of the city right next to my great grandparents graves (Near Miss Daisy's grave of “Driving Miss Daisy, fame). There were two large Jewish congregation sections for two large Synagogues, where I learned of this custom to leave a rock each time I visited. I do this now at my father’s grave. But someone always comes behind when cleaning and removes it, he is buried out back of a small Baptist Church.
