Osama probably deserved to die, but, at least according to our laws, not in the manner that he did. He was summarily executed. There was no attempt to capture him. This is both illegal, and, from an intelligence gathering perspective, an incredibly bizarre move.

In fact, there are many intelligence oddities in this story. Just one example is that we disposed of Osama's body within hours of his death. If you spend 10 years and billions of dollars hunting down al Qaeda, and you kill their leader, then you autopsy his body (over months). Period. Our bodies are sponges of our environment. An autopsy, as well as medical conditions and signs of treatment can help us compose a timeline and geography of his whereabouts, as well as routines and practices. Did he ever receive any medical treatment, for example, that would have required the sophisticated resources of a hospital? And when did this treatment likely take place?

The whole episode is bizarre and frustrating.

Yes, but it makes a great case for the conspiracy theorists!

I was under the impression that they buried him quickly to follow the rules under the Muslim law, to keep Al Quada or others from trying to find or recover his body and to keep riots over the mistreatment of his body from blowing up. The requirement under muslim burial (which prefers land, but allows for a sea burial) is that it must be done within 24 hours.

I personally think it would have been more dangerous to have kept the body, even if we could 'study' it.

Riots over the mistreatment of his body? We shot him in the face. I don't know what the Islamic custom is for shooting Muslims in the face, but given that the Muslim response to our having done so has been entirely underwhelming thus far, I would think it irresponsible for us to drop a mother-load of evidence into the ocean because we expect riots over the entirely rational and understandable need to thoroughly autopsy his body.

I also don't buy that our national interest is better served by preventing riots in foreign lands than it would be by gathering all the intelligence we possibly can on those responsible for 9/11.

In any case, we can always not dump him in the ocean and just say we did. I'd like to believe they had enough sense to do that, but I have my doubts.

Mixed emotions. I don't like people dying in their sins. I don't expect that Osama had a change of heart and converted. I don't like the fact that He didn't. Perhaps he is learning on the other side.

I respect the people that are sad or having mixed feelings about Osama’s death. I am totally ok with us killing him. Drop that sucker, twice! LOL Osama did a lot more evil things than Laban, and the Lord gave Nephi authorization to slay him. So, I have no problem with this. He killed many thousands of people in his reign of terror and caused heartache to many more due to the economic collapse after 911. He convinced many young people to end their lives with suicide bombings which killed many others too. There was no mystery that he did all that, he had admitted it several times on tape. For me, there isn’t any thing else to discuss.
