Something about the notion of becoming like God to meaning becoming a god yourself just feels...wrong?

Does something about the notion of becoming like your mother to meaning becoming a mother yourself feel ... wrong?

I'm not so sure that it is the same thing. While my mother gave birth to me and raised me, she did not create me, God did. So, with Him being creator of the universe, I do have to admit it does not feel right putting myself anywhere near the category of Him, even in a resurrected and exalted state.

Your earthly mother did the same thing for your body as your Heavenly Father did for your spirit. When she raised you, she did the same thing for you here on earth as He did for you in the pre-mortal spirit world. There is no significant difference.

While it may be hard for some people to recognize that there is an exact parallel between the spiritual creation of your spirit body and the temporal creation of your temporal body, that parallel is exact.

It does not reduce your mother's status, nor change at all, when you become a mother to your children, and it does not reduce Father's status, nor change your relationship to Him when you become a God to your own creation.

It does not diminish your professor's status when you do the things he taught you to do. It does not minimize your mentor's status when you achieve your goal, and start mentoring others in the same field.

Godhood is spiritual parenthood. When I became a father, I made my father a grandfather (actually not quite true, my brother did that when he became a father, but you get the point). When you become a God, you will make our Father a GrandGod: you will increase His status. My own sons and daughters have made me a grandfather many time over (twenty-seven, so far). I will never, however, surpass my father, who has only 24 grandchildren, because he has 45 great grandchildren. No matter what I do, no matter what my children do, no matter what my grandchildren do, my father will always be ahead of me, because what I do increases him.

It is the same with God. When we fulfill the measure of our creation, we will only make Him greater. I find that very satisfying.

Thank you for phrasing it that way. I'd never thought of it that way. I guess, likewise, without God, none of us would have existed in the first place, so how could we ever be greater than Him?

God also provide a physical world for our physical bodies to be created in plus the only reason why one's earthly mother can give us our bodies is because God created a situation for her to do so, so I think there is some significant difference.

I have no idea TAO! Something about the notion of becoming like God to meaning becoming a god yourself just feels...wrong? I guess that's the best way that I could describe it, is that it just doesn't sit. As far as the OP, I was reading in the Bible and thought I would ask

Hmmm... what if we didn't persay call it 'becoming a God'... what if it was 'inheriting God with Christ'? What I mean is... why do you view raising your sons and daughters up to be awesome adults as different than Heavenly Father doing that, albight in a much bigger fashion?

Keep in mind though, we will still be subject to him up there... even in our raised and blessed state... but what do you think is wrong with God allowing us to serve others in the same way he has served us... out of love?

I understand if it just doesn't sit... and I think part of the reason is that it's very hard to get a good picture of it. I was a bit iffy with it when it was first introduced to me... partly because we view 'God' as so independent and isolated and... distant.... when I think, perhaps, he's not so much that way... he is a loving, friendly, kind, caring individual who is as much family to us... even more family to us then our mother and father. When I look at him in this way... I don't see a problem with him raising us to be like he is... partly because he's so good... and kind... and awesome like that =). It's hard to think about being like an isolated and distant creature... but it really makes things easier when you look at him as your Father... who loves you and you love him =). And he'll be there to guide you when you falter every step of the way =D.

But yah... hope that helps... not sure if it will much, but eh, that is between you and God that it is... between you and Father =D.
