Please use a map and go find where Syria is located.

At first I thought it a mistake, then he began using it consistently.

Oh, please tell me when the LDS KJV of the Holy Bible was dropped as a part of the Standard Works you should notify the Church immediately because they still publish the LDS KJV with the Bible Dictionary and put the LDS KJV (with Bible dictionary) up as part of the scriptures at: http://lds.org/scriptures/bd?lang=eng

The Bible Dictionary is not the KJV.

This dictionary has been designed to provide teachers and students with a concise collection of definitions and explanations of items that are mentioned in or are otherwise associated with the Bible. It is based primarily upon the biblical text, supplemented by information from the other books of scripture accepted as standard works by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is not intended as an official or revealed endorsement by the Church of the doctrinal, historical, cultural, and other matters set forth. Many of the items have been drawn from the best available scholarship of the world and are subject to reevaluation based on new research and discoveries or on new revelation. The topics have been carefully selected and are treated briefly. If an elaborate discussion is desired, the student should consult a more exhaustive dictionary.

Notice how it is based on, but not considered a "standard work." It has not official or revealed endorsement by the Church. It is subject to reevaluation.

Perhaps he'll read it the second time around. I also posted the definition of the Standard Works given at LDS.org....it did not include "Bible Dictionary"!

At first I thought it a mistake, then he began using it consistently.

He used Serbia as well, it is likely a mistake but it is a silly and sloppy mistake to keep making if one wants to come across as even halfway intelligent about the region and about one's writing (to demonstrate that one is actually using more than a few brain cells in the composition).

Volgadon provided more information and context to the beginning of World War I, which you have not dealt with. You instead repeated yourself, increased the size of the text, and asked for refutation of sources you haven't actually read.

My only response to this is the following video:

I fully presented that there position that the July Ultimatum was the cause of WWI was wrong, that the July Ultimatum cause the Syrians to assassinate the Archduke, and the assassination of the Archduke was the reason why the Austrians declared war on the Syrians, which started WWI.

So the Archduke's assassination was the cause of WWI, not the July Ultimatum.

Maybe your College or High School (note the capitalization...) teaches your completely wrong and alternative geography, but mine didn't. :P

No, I'm saying there is no possible way a good and just God could have ordered it. Since I believe God to be good and just, I don't believe the account of the genocide.

Oh, I see, you are correct- you don't attempt to read the mind of God, you are only presumptuous enough to pretend you can tell God what is just and unjust.

Gotcha. :P

The Bible Dictionary is not the KJV.

I never said it was, what I said is that it is part of the standard works, as it is contained within the LDS KJV. Of course it is subject to editing and change, just as any publication is. The Book of Mormon has been edited several times since it was first published in 1830, are you saying that editing something makes it false?

That is ironic because editing mistakes in a text is actually making more true, not false!

Weren't you complaining about an individual's use of a comedy video...

Actually, you did exactly what I said you did: You repeated yourself, increased the text size, and asked for refutation of the sources you haven't read. You are appealing to Wikipedia and nothing else.

If it includes LDS KJV, then it sure does includes the Bible Dictionary because the Bible Dictionary is in the LDS KJV, just like the JST is in the LDS KJV and the Saints most certainly consider the JST as part of the Standard Works!

Another definition from lds.org: Standard Works is redirected to Canon which gives one....

Canon

See also Bible; Book of Mormon; Doctrine and Covenants; Pearl of Great Price; Scriptures.A recognized, authoritative collection of sacred books. In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the canonical books are called the standard works and include the Old and New Testaments, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.

Don't see the Bible Dictionary listed there.....

I'm created in the image of God. I was born with the light of Christ, and I have the gift of the Holy Ghost. I know the difference between good and evil. I presume that God is good. If you think that God might be evil, you are entitled to that opinion.

I'm not telling God anything. I'm telling you, and you, sir, are not God.

Yes the assassination caused to happen suddenly (the definition of precipitated) the declaration of war between Austria and Syria, and if you read the rest of the quote

It did not. The tension between Austro-Hungary and Serbia existed before the assassination. The assassination was a result of that tension. Austro-Hungary tried to pin the assassination on Serbia officially, rather than on individual Serbs and Serbian underground movements, but could not. They had to find another pretext for declaring war on Serbia. They were eager to do so because they wanted to prevent Serbian meddling in Bosnia-Hercegovina. The AH Empire consisted of dozens of nationalities, and increasing agitation for national independence. The situation was volatile. They came up with a bullying ultimatum, which Serbia mostly accepted. This wasn't good enough, and war broke out.

As you can see, the assassination was not the cause of the war.

See this is why you must learn to read the whole post my good friend.

I said relying on a comedy sketch to tell you HISTORY is not scholarly, just like using the Colbert Report to get modern political commentary is not scholarly.

Now using a comedy sketch to show the obvious state of my oppositions lack luster rebuttals is not historic, so the use is pointless like most of your commentary has been. You really need to read not what is said, unless you enjoy making pointless and baseless accusations that are completely inaccurate and false.

Yet, you used this as an argument: "please tell me when the LDS KJV of the Holy Bible was dropped as a part of the Standard Works."

what I said is that it is part of the standard works

And this is wrong. The statement I provided makes this explicit.

as it is contained within the LDS KJV

That doesn't make it a standard work. As Bruce McConkie stated, "[As for the] "Joseph Smith Translation items, the chapter headings, Topical Guide, Bible Dictionary, footnotes, the Gazeteer, and the maps. None of these are perfect; they do not of themselves determine doctrine; there have been and undoubtedly now are mistakes in them. Cross-references, for instance, do not establish and never were intended to prove that parallel passages so much as pertain to the same subject. They are aids and helps only."

Because the JST is a revision of the Bible, not a dictionary.

But they would also be wrong if you mean that the JST is part of the official canon of the Church:

Although it is not the official Bible of the Church, this translation does offer many interesting insights and is very valuable in understanding the Bible. It is also a witness for the divine calling and ministry of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

I'm not interested in what you consider "pointless commentary" given the fact that I can't think of a worthwhile post you have made the entire time you've been here.

Neither is the BoM, KJV, D&C, or PoGP perfect so your point is once again worthless to the discussion. They are all part of the Standard works though along with the JST, TG and the BD.

He has done some. I have even given him a point or two for a few comments.

However, in threads where he refuses to engage evidence (even as simple and straightforward as a definition of the standard words from lds.org) I can see why the other posts might fade in remembrance.

Not to mention that the Bible Dictionary isn't included in some recent editions of the standard works. The Guide to the Scriptures is. Similar, but not identical.

It wasn't my point. It was Bruce's. "...they do not of themselves determine doctrine" and "They are aids and helps only" seems to go quite well with "It is not intended as an official or revealed endorsement by the Church of the doctrinal, historical, cultural, and other matters set forth."

How can it be more obvious that the Bible Dictionary is not a Standard Work?

CFR, please find one definition or explanation of the Standard works that includes the TG and BD. I have already posted the link to the Guide to the Scriptures (what you would call part of the Standard Works) that specifically says the JST is not part of the official canon. Walker and I have posted multiple quotes from lds.org specifically not including the BD and TG.

No, but the partial rejection of the July Ultimatum WAS.

BTW, you haven't stated who Judah would have gone to war with over Laban's murder.
