An outside observation

I've noticed that some evangelicals criticise the LDS practice of baptising for the dead, and I find that suprising (when it was clearly practiced in Corinth at the time that Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 15.)

I'm familiar with what early Catholic commentators had to say on the verse, and the more honest ones seem to conceed that the practice is clearly alluded to (even when arguing that Paul didn't necessarily endorse it.)

It seems to me that the Mormon practice of baptizing for the dead, and your standing relatively alone in this today (except for one small Japanese Church I've read of), is one of your strong points.

I don't know if that leaves much room for discussion and debate, and maybe there's no point in even posting it here (I just felt like making the observation.)

I'd also like to make the observation that all the Mormons I've seen are very nice people, and set a very good example.

(If letting your light shine is part of preaching the Gospel, it seems to me that you do a good job of it.)

When JSJr was visited by Moroni, he quoted Malachi's message about turning the hearts of the children to the fathers, and the fathers to the children. JSJr later taught that it is Baptism for the Dead that creates this tying bind. We turn our hearts to them when we perform acts in our temples for their benefit. Their hearts are turned to us when they accept our acts done as stand-ins for them.

I don't think they can avoid having to confront it as a legitimate practice.
