Jeff K. Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Sad, but then her choice and his are exactly that. I see nothing convincing hin the individual, though I would like to see what the 80+ followers see in the individual, it might be a facinating study.
Lightbearer Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 An interesting -- albeit, to me, very sad -- article about Christopher Nemelka and his most visible follower:http://www.cityweekly.net/utah/article-13162-sealed-fate.html?current_page=1Shades of Korihor? I really appreciate the essense of his "mission" is to "counter the b*** s*** of the LDS Church." Basically the same agenda as all Anti-Mormons and all other self appointed apostates who desire to "steady the ark" to their own and any who are foolish enough to heed them's destruction. The saddest part is this elderly lady who was so desperate to see the sealed part of the Book of Mormon she is willing to reject the very Church that is ordained to bring those parts forth. I see this as another example that is all too common in our day, of "looking beyond the mark" instead of faithfully enduring to the end.
BookofMormonLuvr Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Nemelka is by far the creepiest, and most akin to the Book of Mormon anti-Christs, of all the pretend "prophets" claiming some background in the Restoration.

BCSpace Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 So is it one third, two thirds, or even a half?
Deborah Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Very sad that anyone would fall for this. I guess it points out that when one is focused on a single desire he/she can lose focus on the big picture.
Fifth Columnist Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Very interesting article. I was especially fascinated to learn the reason that Ida Smith "fell for" the ridiculous hoax propagated by Christopher Nemelka. While BYU
thesometimesaint Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Fifth Columnist:Uncalled for, and why am I not surprised by your comment?
LifeOnaPlate Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I remember the death of his nephew and how he tried to use it to market himself. That's a tragic situation, really. And then using an old woman's burial plot to put up a granite advertisement for his websites?
Jeff K. Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Very interesting article. I was especially fascinated to learn the reason that Ida Smith "fell for" the ridiculous hoax propagated by Christopher Nemelka.Hmm, that sounds an awful lot like the Holy Ghost. Its like someone who has never heard the Beatles listening to the punk band "Ikons of Filth" and saying "Oh that sounds like the Beatles.
LifeOnaPlate Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Here's an interesting affidavit from a former cell mate, ostensibly:http://chrisnemelka.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/070401714-Jeff-Richins-Affidavit-Nemelka-.pdfHere's an interesting bit that sort of crops up unexpectedly:I don't remember Chris saving anyone's life while he was in jail. I didn't see him doing pushups, let alone 1000 pushups at a time.
TAO Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I have to say that both Chris N and his somewhat nemesis/anti-bloggist don't seem like very good people at times.
Sky Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 This Christopher Nemelka sounds like a real nut. I'll stick with Thomas S. Monson any day.
CQUIRK Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Hmm, that sounds an awful lot like the Holy Ghost. No, it sounds like a delusional and senile old woman that obviously is loony-tunes and so psychologically unhinged that she would see Hell as Heaven. Nemelka's background and reputation is so bad and conspicuous, that for someone to take him 100% at his word- well, the only sad thing that I feel about her is just how she's going to get judged in the afterlife. My own mother is the EV version of Ida, which is why I have no respect for people like this.
CQUIRK Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I have to say that both Chris N and his somewhat nemesis/anti-bloggist don't seem like very good people at times. For a supposed 'Prophet' he openingly uses foul language, makes contradictory remarks, and has a nasty background to begin with, plus the "gospel" he preaches is indeed alien to the LDS belief system. In fact I think his followers have to be some of the most gullible & stupidest people on the face of the earth today.

mercyngrace Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I thought it was hysterical that Elder Holland used the term "wacko".edit:Just now watching the video -Love it when she says "The gospel is true, the church is trying. Sometimes it's very trying."rotfl! However you feel about her decision regarding the "Sealed Portion", she is quite lucid, funny, and seems competent.Sounds like she's struggled with feelings of discomfort with the church for decades.
CQUIRK Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 rotfl! However you feel about her decision regarding the "Sealed Portion", she is quite lucid, funny, and seems competent.Yeah, on the surface. But some people, especially Nemelka, can put up a convicting act at times, yet their actions and fruits will always show their true selves.
mercyngrace Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Yeah, on the surface. But some people, especially Nemelka, can put up a convicting act at times, yet their actions and fruits will always show their true selves. After finishing the video interview, I think Smith comes off as something of a gospel hobbyist who was consumed with a desire for more revelation and insight into 'mysteries'. Ultimately, it would appear, she got exactly what she was looking for -- someone to preach to her.All in all, it's sad. Disaffected from her family, her church, her community - mocked by a reporter who wants to know if she's housing Nemelka and others and if she approves of his leaving 9 destitute children while proposing plans to end world poverty... just sad.
CQUIRK Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 After finishing the video interview, I think Smith comes off as something of a gospel hobbyist who was consumed with a desire for more revelation and insight into 'mysteries'. Ultimately, it would appear, she got exactly what she was looking for -- someone to preach to her.And obviously she became so obsessive in those desires that it made her desperate for ANYTHING to fulfill them, to the point of being spiritually blind and mentally irrational. All in all, it's sad. Disaffected from her family, her church, her community - mocked by a reporter who wants to know if she's housing Nemelka and others and if she approves of his leaving 9 destitute children while proposing plans to end world poverty... just sad. For how much she's been bamboozled and lead astray, and likewise tried to extend that influence upon her family- SHE GOT WHAT SHE DESERVED!With blindly following a visible black sheep like Nemelka, she brought the mocking and criticism upon herself and reaped the just consequences. On a more positive side, my own mother, the EV version of Ida, at least has learned to tone down her religious fervor and be respectful of my and my brothers choices of what we believe, which is why we still keep in touch with her.

Then how does this nutzoid profess he is trying to dispell all the "edit" of the church? Please don't quote profanity.
TAO Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Guys, I really think we should stop bashing on Nemelka. Just let him be.
Traela Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 How long is this "sealed portion"? Based on the length of the current BoM, it should be close to 1000 pages, I think. Is Nemelka's even close to that? And are there any witnesses? If he claims to be a successor to Joseph Smith, he really should have at least two people who can cite first-hand knowledge that his book did indeed come from where he said it did. Now granted, I tend to not take seriously anyone who cultivates such an obvious "I look like Jesus!" persona. That, plus his noble, heroic pose in the photograph made me laugh. But I tend to be cynical.
