What is the Gospel?I would say the Gospel is the Doctrine of Christ which leads a man unto perfectionHeb 61 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.Faith in Christ, that he was the savior, that he died and was ressurected on the third day. Is just the frist step.There was much more to Pauls preaching than just this simple point.

Is just the frist step.There was much more to Pauls preaching than just this simple point.I would disagree. I would say the Gospel is the Gospel, and doctrine is doctrine. In other words. The Gospel means, "good news". So the question is what is the Good news about Jesus Christ that we are to obey? I wouldn't say that the "good news" is the doctrine of Christ. Rather it's a free gift of redemption through Christ alone.

LDS Guy 1986 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 In the (now closed) Grace In Sacrament Meeting thread, consiglieri, suggested that we do not teach Grace enough or do not emphasize Grace enough. Now, in his defense, it doesn't appear that Grace is a word that gets thrown around alot in our worship. A seach of the Gospel Principles Manual only turned up THREE references to Grace.Now in our defense, we don't seem to talk about Grace as such, but we talk about The Atonement.Now IMHO this appears to cover what I understand to be the Evanglical concept of Grace. Do you agree? Or Disagree? and Why?I agree our belief in the grace of Jesus Christ is covered in our teaching of the atonement. I think we do not throw the word grace around as much as Evangelicals because unlike most Evangelicals we believe what the Bible teaches that grace can only be obtained through obedience to the commandments and teachings of Jesus Christ. Many believe that saying the love Christ is enough and they obtain grace, this is not the case though, we need to be worthy of grace by taking up our cross daily and following after Christ. Our actions determine our worthiness to have his grace applied to us. It saying you believe in Christ was all that was needed you could rape, murder, and do all sorts of evil and simple say "forgive me" before you die and inherit paradise even though you mocked God with your entire life!This is why we use the word atonement instead of grace, we do not believe that grace is a gift given to anyone who proclaims the name of Jesus Christ with there mouth. It is only given to those who proclaim the name of Jesus Christ in there heart and actions!

Through the grace of God, everyone who has lived will be resurrected
LDSGuy Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I think the best scripture on Grace in John 15. This chapter clearly defines our role and the Savior's role. Could we use the word "grace" more often? We could, but I think the word "Atonement is sufficient and even more descriptive of the relationship.
