Blacks couldn't hold the Priesthood before 1978, but they could still be baptized into the church.

Did the SBC ever have blacks in their church back then, however?

Of course a black can become Prophet in the Church, though first he has to be ordained an Apostle, and that well happen.

Nobody looks identical in the afterlife, LOL.

What positions did black have before 1978 or what were they not accepted to be and do??

In the 1830s~80s, a black man named Elijah Abel was a Seventy. His descendants also held the Priesthood of God. He served at least two missions for the Church and His Lord.

Also can a black become a president like Albama in the mormon church now and before??

Yes, but as was already noted, he'd first have to be an Apostle. It may happen in your lifetime. Who knows? We don't elect our president(s), it's the Lord's call.

Also the last question is how are blacks in thwe spirit world , are they the same as white people are and were??

Sorry, I can't decipher this.

We won't look the same, any more than we do now. Anything else will depend on how they live their lives and how and when they accept the Atonement of Jesus Christ and their repentance, the same as with anyone else, Jew or Gentile, Black or White, Bond or Free.

The Book of Mormon teaches no such doctrine. You would do well to separate Book of Mormon teachings from previous speculative teachings of LDS leadership.

let's get together and feel alright.

I don't go by feeling, I walk by faith not by sight like some!

BTW , what is the deal with the spirit world before we were born as black?

Was it said in the mormon society that black were cursed or the bad people in the spirit world, and that why we are blacks??

Also if a prophet make this claim about black not being the same as everybody else how can they be a true prophet of Christ who has no respect of person???

Again why is it not possible to have a black president in the mormon society ??

Sense the mormons think God was a man at one time, maybe God was black from the beginning and that is why there is black people , does that make sense??

Was it speculated on by members of the Church, some of whom were in leadership? Yes, it was. But was it official doctrine or revelation of the church? No.

In a letter to a M. Knudson dated about January 13, 1912, the First Presidency stated that: "There is no revelation, ancient or modern, neither is there any authoritative statement by any of the authorities of the Church

Not that I'm aware of.

Hello my mormons friends

Is there any one here aware of this , and can say the truth on the matter??

I believe he said they would not hold it before the rest of Adam's children. He wasn't the prophet' date=' seer, revelator, and president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, nor was he authorized to receive revelation for the Church of Jesus Christ as a whole. He was wrong, and he admitted he was wrong.

He also said the following after the 1978 revelation:

Forget everything that I have said, or what President Brigham Young or President George Q. Cannon or whomever has said in days past that is contrary to the present revelation. We spoke with limited understanding and without the light and knowledge that has now come into the world.

Well, you'd have to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints first. I know a couple of young gentlemen or ladies who would love to explore that possibility with you. Care to PM me with your contact info? :P

Would you care to explain precisely what part of the foregoing post by Gohan has sparked your incredulity? ;)

Apparently Joseph later changed his mind..........

Provided your quote is accurate and completely in context, he must have. His 1844 platform as a candidate for President of the United States favored selling off federal lands and using the proceeds to purchase slaves' freedom.

... I though [sic; "thought"?] the [book of Mormon] is infallible and also the prophets or presidents??

Huh. :P I'd love to call for a reference on both of those, especially since Joseph Smith said, "I never told you I was perfect, but there is no error in the revelations I have taught," and the Book of Mormon itself says, "If there are faults, they are the mistakes of men. Condemn not the things of God because of the mistakes of men." I might suggest that you stop trying to hold our prophets to a standard we have never claimed for them, nor have they ever claimed it for themselves. ;)

It is impossible to prove a negative, but I have never heard anyone, not Elder McConkie nor anyone else, say that blacks would never hold the Priesthood. There was misinformation, beginning in Brigham Young's day, that held that Blacks would not hold the Priesthood until Christ returned. But, in Brother McConkie's words, "Forget everything I or anyone else has said on the subject."

We have always known that Blacks would, one day, hold the Priesthood, the issue was when that would happen, not whether it would. Anyone who has told you otherwise is lying.

Furthermore, to clarify a potential misunderstanding, we have also never held that Blacks were anything but children of God, just as we see ourselves in the same place. Blacks were always seen as having souls, as being suitable candidates for salvation and exaltation, and we did work for the dead among them on the same basis as we did for anyone of God's children, of all races on the earth. There is no space on a Temple data card for race, so the odds of any of us having done Temple work for a black man or woman is exactly in proportion to black men or women living in a given population. I recorded hundreds of names from census records in early XX, and submitted them to the Temple for work. The area in Cincinnati was largely peopled by Negroes, but while I enregistered names, birth dates, addresses, and so on, I never entered the word "Negro" as the census recorder had done.

We fully expect to have black brothers and sisters in the Celestial Kingdom of God, and this has always been our understanding of the matter.

How can we truly reach out to people of color when the Book of Mormon associates dark skin with filthiness? We white people look at it and try to say the terminology is symbolic or not applicable to today, or whatever the GA's say, but I've seen a potential black investigator leave over the wording in the Book of Mormon. I find it hard to think that we can say it's fine and not sound racist saying it.

It is said that the neutral spirits became faeries, so they couldn't have become human.

Hey, Nathair,

Can you elaborate on this remark...? Was this tongue-in-cheek, or are you referring to some non-LDS mythology about faeries, here...??

I don't know much more than that. I read a reference to a tale once where a human met one of them and the Faerie told the human that they were cursed to roam the earth until judgement day for being neutral on the war in heaven. I don't know where I would find it again.

For the record, I never use faerie in a pejorative sense.

I can you know a history of morminism which can't be proven and weak evidence except the teaching all black people came to earth as cursed people!

That's a rather difficult sentence to parse. It seems to be asserting that all of LDS history is weak and unprovable "except the teaching [that] all black people came to earth as cursed people!"

Is that your position?

Because if it is, then you are wrong.

Completely. Arrogantly. And stubbornly.

If you would like to learn something about what Latter-day Saints really teach, believe and do, then I suggest you apologise for your indefensible rudeness, and then stick around for a while.

But if you plan to continue to take it upon your prodigiously ignorant self to tell us what our history and doctrine is, then I suggest you find another forum, where your kind of bigotry is protected.

Regards,

Pahoran

If people choose to mis-interpret the BoM whose fault is that?

evangelist,

Back in September I posted this link in an attempt to enlighten everyone to the issue of blacks in the church through the eyes of this precious sister...Renee Olsen.

Unfortunalty Renee past on suddenly and unexpectedly after this was filmed. I can only hope you can see her point of view and recognize that the church may have had some racist notions in the past...but not anymore.

This is just one of four parts. Enjoy!

All Christian denominations and all Jewish denominations acknowlege that the Aaronic/Levitical priesthood had or has a lineage requiremnent. Jews who purport to hold the Aaronic or Levitical priesthood do so solely on the basis of lineage. For Jews, men whos fathers were priests are priests. There is no other requirement. All Christians, including LDS, accept this as being valid during some period in the past.

True. But from the time of Christ on...

Isaiah 66

16 For by fire and by his sword will the Lord plead with all flesh: and the slain of the Lord shall be many.

17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine

Interesting. I've never heard that about faeries being cursed to roam the earth until judgement day for being neutral in the war in heaven. If you should ever recall or happen to stumble upon the source, I'd love to have you post it--not because I think it has any bearing on Mormon doctrine, per se, but simply because I find myth to be fascinating and illuminating about different aspects of our shared human experience.

And, no worries--the thought hadn't even crossed my mind that you were anywhere near using the term faerie in a pejorative sense. :P

That there were leaders who set seeds in the church and roots about racism in the churchy of LDS and that it was true, and these leader were accepted in their position to be called leader and good teachers of so called truth, with in a true church LDS!
