Not to mention monopolizing the board!

In my mind, one of the great witnesses to the spiritual authenticity of Latter-day scripture includes the profound way in which the Book of Mormon, the D&C, the Book of Abraham, and the JST incorporate ancient symbolism to convey religious truth. This is especially true in terms of the image of the prophetic "mouth."

Throughout the Hebrew Bible, the image of

Psalms 109:2

For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

Matthew 15:11

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Reminds me of the mis pi and pit pi rituals ("mouth-washing" and "mouth-opening"). Does the idea of being God's "mouth" have anything to do with this type of imagery? From what I've read elsewhere, the creation of Adam and the "breath of life" certainly reflect these elements.

Are you claiming or implying that you are a prophet of hte Lord?

If you cannot contribute something of substance, please do not participate in my threads.

I am trying to figure out your angle dude. From the title of your OP.

"Opening the Mouth as Ancient Religious Imagery Yet Another Example of Me Leading this People into Apostasy "

You seem to be stating that you are doing a discussion about imagery in the scriptures involving the mouth and that you are "Another Example of Me (you) Leading this People into Apostasy".

Remember you put yourself, personaly, in your own thread. I am trying to figure out what the main purpose of this thread is. And I cannot "contribute something of substance" until I know this information.

Thanks, Walker. Nicely done! As I discussed in my article on Isaiah 6 that appears in the book Covenants, Hymns, and Prophecies of the Old Testament, there is a very strong link between Isaiah

My angle is that for six years I have enjoyed sharing scriptural insights with this forum on a variety of topics and that this is but one more example of me doing so and therefore leading this people into apostasy.

I don't think you are leading people into apostasy. I think your insights, for the most part, are really really good. I agree with most of what you say. I was curious as to your angle and thank you for clueing me in. The reality is that I probably don't have much to offer as you already touched upon most of the scriptures I am familiar with.

I will give you a freindly nod and say I am glad you are spreading your wealth of knowledge of the scriptures.

You're such a dork.

Edit: And I meant this as a term of endearment.

You're such a dork.

I realised this long ago. I am what I am. I realised also that is the reason I got beat up in school so much. What do you do?

Embrace the dorkiness and plow forward.

Hey, I do. I had to. I am fine with who I am.

By the way, do you have a copy of that article you mentioned? Would you mind sending it to me?

I'll see if I can make a PDF version. I do have a longer version that includes connections with Lehi's throne theophany that I have not yet published that I know I can send you.

The longer one sounds great! Thanks so much. My dialogue is in a couple days, by the way. Thanks again for reviewing my presentation!

This is interesting.

It is also interesting to search "mouth" in the scriptures and see the various uses and some of the similarities in them.

I don't know if this applies, but it came to my mind while reading your OP.

Psalm 51:15:

O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

You know, after I got off the computer last night I thought of a verse. It is a favorite of mine. It is one the the EV camp often uses but I think it will be a good addition to this thread.

Romans 10:9

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

It appears that the mouth is used for forgiveness of sins. I figure this fits in with the imagry found in Isaiah that Vance brought up.

Thanks to those who have added scriptural examples of this motif. It's interesting to consider.

Our own Benjamin Urrutia published an article entitled "Psalm 51 and the 'Opening of the Mouth' Ceremony." Good call.

I'm not familiar with this article. Do you have a link and/or reference?

Thanks.

I don't. I actually just saw it cited during my search and recognized the author. If it hadn't been Urrutia and about the very same subject, I would have blown right past it.

Please continue your "monopolizing"! It's not your fault that you are the only smart guy left who posts here.

I disagree with what I take to be your politics, but so what?

Great post, great subject!
