Doubting Thomas Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 My question is this. Is there marriage in heaven? Please refer to Mathew 22:23-32 prior to a reply on this question. Given this biblical ref: (yes it is the KJV) how then can we say a man and women can be jioned in eternity in celestial marriage?
Obiwan Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 My question is this. Is there marriage in heaven? Please refer to Mathew 22:23-32 prior to a reply on this question. Given this biblical ref: (yes it is the KJV) how then can we say a man and women can be jioned in eternity in celestial marriage?1. The scripture you reference doesn't even say "Heaven", it says resurrection thus you are adding to the Word.2. Sealings are done "on this earth", thus not even done in Heaven. "Whatsoever shall be bound by my Priesthood, shall be bound in Heaven".3. Those Jesus were speaking too didn't even believe in the Resurrection. Christ was telling them their question is irrelevant, because NONE of the marriages were bound by His Power, thus she would be married to know-one. This is one reason why Marriages are done for the Living AND the Dead in LDS Temples, so they are able to become "Eternal".
Vance Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. Simply means that no ceremonies will be performed. Says nothing about people whose marriages occurred prior to the resurrection not continuing in said institution.
Brenda Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Marriage is an earthly ordinance and when done by the proper authority and depending on the couple's worthiness, will remain intact after this life. Same with baptism, which is why we do baptisms for those who have already died.Matt. 18: 18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
mercyngrace Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Even marriages sealed by proxy are performed before the resurrection...
Deborah Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Given this biblical ref: (yes it is the KJV) how then can we say a man and women can be jioned in eternity in celestial marriage?Because they are joined before the resurrection by the sealing power of God.

cjwright Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 My question is this. Is there marriage in heaven? Please refer to Mathew 22:23-32 prior to a reply on this question. Given this biblical ref: (yes it is the KJV) how then can we say a man and women can be jioned in eternity in celestial marriage? The marriage law that the Sadducess were challenging Christ about has nothing to do with Celestial Marriage, but only a temporal one for a specific purpose. Under that law, if a married man dies without having a child, then his brother must marry the widow for the purpose of producing a child, and the child of this marriage would not be considered the biological father's, but his dead brother's (Deuteronomy 25:5+6).In Matthew 22:29, when Christ says "Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures" it is because the law is plain enough that the Sadducess asking the question is stupid. If the child would be considered as the widow's first husband's, why not the widow also? The fact that in the example she marries seven brothers, none giving her a child, has nothing to do with it. If any of them had then the child would still be considered her first husband's and she wouldn't need to marry any of the other brothers. So with verses 23-29 dismissed as having nothing to do with your question, we are left with verses 30-32. 31 and 32 also have nothing to do with your question, so we are left with verse 30, which has been adequately answered by others.
Doubting Thomas Posted May 4, 2010 Author Posted May 4, 2010 Another hit and run troll.Let's wait to see if he responds before we waste any more time. For your information I am studying Catholicsm, Protestant denominations and LDS. I am attending an LDS church in the coming weekend and so I am not a hit and run anything I am merely courious and I ask the Catholics and others similar questions also. So please lets not start attacking here. It saves me time researching posting on here because some people give me good references to read that I might not know otherwise.

I don't see anything wrong with the question. It is a common question with an easy answer.Doubting Thomas, newbies who start a new thread when they haven't particpated in their first thread create suspicion about motives. Don't start anymore threads until you have responded to posters who take the time to answer you.

And I have read the scripture on baptism of the dead which is facinteing because the Protestant chaplain I asked could only tell me we don't know the meaning of this scripture I think its Corinthians 15:29? but where is the biblical reference to marriages being performed after death? How do you know the dead person even wants u to do that?

Marriage Sealings for the dead aren't "obviously" stated in the Bible, but in Latter-day Scripture. However, there are a few "clues" of it (sorry, so obscure I can't remember to quote you at the moment).3. In LDS theology Christ came to "save" everyone. And he said that none can enter Heaven save certain ordainances are done, such as Baptism. The person want's it because they are dead and can't do it for themselves. When they are in the spirit world they are being taught the gospel, and most will be accepting it because after all, their eyes will be open to everything. If we are "true" then it's an important thing to do. If we are false, then we are just playing tic-tac-toe with ourselves and such means nothing and does nothing to the dead.
Garden Girl Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Hello Doubting...There's another scripture(s) that I think gives us a clue...1 Corinthians 11:11-2"Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God."GG
Ray Callis Hatton III Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Jesus only denied that people can "marry" or be "given in marriage" in the resurrection, by which his words refereed to the 'act' of getting married, not the 'state' of marriage. The original Greek (As seen in the article on Fairlds.org), the word translated as "marry" is "game?," which means "to enter the marriage state, to wed, to get married," and thus clearly refers to an action, not a state of being. Also, "giving in marriages" is "ekgamiz?," is just an alternative way of saying the same thing. If Jesus had wanted to deny the existence of eternal marriage, he could have used a word used to refer to a married person, like "gam

cdowis Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Bottom line ==>>We believe exactly what Christ taught, that marriage cannot be performed in the spirit world, in heaven. This must be done on earth. We also accept the word of Christ to Peter that whatsoever is sealed on earth is also sealed in heaven. Peter had the authority to seal marriages for eternity, and that authority is found today in the LDS church. We accept the doctrine of Christ, not the interpretations of the theologians and scholars. They reject modern revelation, and know nothing of such things.
hordak Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 My question is will there be marriage in heaven? Often time we hear this idea that singles who do what they should will get a chance to be wed on the other side. But is it scriptural? I mean the church doesn't match up strangers and while the veil may be thinner during the millennial era isn't the during the first resurrection?

No one is a stranger on the other side of the veil, so it will be someone of their choosing. This is my understanding of this doctrine. The ordinances themselves, of course, will be performed here on this earth.

This is my understanding of this doctrine. The ordinances themselves, of course, will be performed here on this earth.I'm referring to the logistical problems of this side. They might be choosing on the other side but how do we know if Marlyn Monroe is "dating" and wishes to be sealed to Chuck Berry or Christopher Columbus? I mean sealing great aunt Helga to great uncle Dolph is simple but with the unwed we have know idea. This is usually explained away with the idea that the veil gets thinner during the millinum but this takes place during the resurrection. And this verse indicates they not marry or be given in marriage during this time.
cdowis Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 During the Millenium, those in the spirit world will be communicating with those on this earth, so that the temple work can be completed. There is much work to be done, and there are large gaps in the records which will be filled in, and the wishes of those on the other side will be made known during this time as well.

There is much work to be done, and there are large gaps in the records which will be filled in, and the wishes of those on the other side will be made known during this time as well.I understand that idea but it seems to contradict the scriptures, we are speaking of.As far i understand it Christ returns and those worthy of everything will be resurrected first to live with him during the Millennium. Those worthy of everything (I.E. Celestial marrige) would be resurrected and Christ states in this verse "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage,Therefor they are not getting married. Those still in the spirit world awaiting the 2nd resurrection are not worthy of full inheritance. So celetial marriage wouldn't matter. So it seems if non married people are going to be getting wed after life it would need to take place by revelation before the millennium.
