I would make the assumption that anything buried should/would stay buried?? Unless a "grave robber" exhumed the mummy from where it was laid to rest??

If the church is true then Joseph Smith was not deceiving us. Even though it might seem odd that the story of Abraham containing ideas of Jehovah, the Holy Ghost, the Gospel, and Christ in the preexistence was buried with an Egyptian mummy, it still must have happened because Joseph Smith would never deceive us. He can't! For to say he did would be slanderous and wicked and we would become apostates and have to leave the church and all the people we grew up with and care for that still attend this church.

Although critics of the church will universally attempt to discredit him and his works, I cannot recommend four books more highly than Hugh Winder Nibley's compendium of Book of Abraham-related volumes:Abraham in EgyptThe Message of the Joseph Smith Papyri (latest edition)An Approach to the Book of AbrahamOne Eternal RoundProfessor Nibley was head and shoulders (and a mountain or two) above those puny minds that casually dismiss him as a parallelomaniac run amok.Incidentally (and although your reference was technically to Abr. 1:14) the often-claimed "internal reference" (Abr. 1:12) to Facsimile #1 is very likely a 19th century redaction. See here for an extended discussion of that question.For me, the most interesting is Facsimile 2. Coincidently, its also the one Facsimile not dealt with in that "Lost Book of Abraham" hit piece. I wonder why? Ive posted on my blog some "Egyptological-ish" blurbs about each figure. For me, the most difficult Facsimile to understand is Fac 3. How Joseph's explanations connect to the Egyptian...I guess we'll have to read the rest of the BoA to see.

Lets get that straight. I am here for specific reasons. I left the church and want to be a part of it again. I went to church last Sunday for the firs time in fifteen years. The reasons I left for were quite idiotic on my part, so i thought "hey, why not join a discussion group so I can be a part of something related to the church againg?" And the first thing I see is some guy named Schryver pretty much running people down, acting as an authorative figure, and presuming that he knows what the prophet was thinking??

I guess I was thinking of the other ideas portrayed in BofA like Jehovah, the Priesthood (not the Egyptian priesthood), the Gospel, an alter for animal sacrifice (did Egyptians care about this? I actually don't know), Christ in the preexistence, the Temple, and the Holy Ghost. Those ideas seemed to be out of place to me when I posted on this subject originally.Thank you!Actually there are indications that the other nations found the God of Israel interesting. I'm off to work in a few minutes so I can't post additional thoughts right now. Priesthood, temples and even the Holy Ghost all had equivalents in ancient Egypt. I can see an Egyptian reading them and thinking that they may have gotten things like the origins wrong, but provide nice additional insights. Kind of like when i read on ancient pagan practices.

Did you enjoy the speakers?2 weeks ago, my bad. general conference was this weekend and i enjoyed watching it on tv. all of this "religion"stuff is becoming more and more important too me as i get older. i dont have any particular story to get down? i am actually excited to get into the teachings again! why is that so scary too you!! isnt this a place to talk about these subjects? if not I will find another in my learning journey. i will have a short lived life on this site if only tpes like yourself post here. i am not interested in a squabble
