emeliza Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 From Consigs description this was not a lecture style teaching. It appears he asked questions and got class participation going. Obviously he had to talk more than everyone else since he was giving the lesson, but he didn't talk the entire time either.
zerinus Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I do believe that consig knew this. As you can see from his posts on this forum, he is always encouraging discussion. I am sure that his class went the same...discussion and deliberation. But to give a summary of the entire discussion would have been lengthy and time consuming. And so, no one is disagreeing with you about the church's stance on class discussion. But you did misunderstand his summary and its intent. It was about how he brought up the knowledge of the different interpretations of the first vision. That is possible; but I don't see it from the way he has described it to me.zerinus
emeliza Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 That is possible; but I don't see it from the way he has described it to me.zerinusDid he describe it to you personally somewhere other than this thread? In this one he points out a few of the questions and discussions that got started. Obviously he didn't write word for word what all happened or it would be a very long post, but he commented on several participants from his class.
mfbukowski Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Are we really debating whether or not Consig followed the manual? Seems like a waste of time and electrons to me.A- How many of us were there?B- Who cares?C- What would it take to "win" or "lose" this debate?I think we agree that manuals are there for a reason and should be followed.Consig I like your posts, and I hope your class went well, but we all have done some great jobs teaching and some rotten jobs teaching. Next subject please.
consiglieri Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 Okay, time for my favorite story from teaching gospel doctrine class.About ten-years ago, I am teaching in the Relief Society room. It's packed. I'm prepped. I let go and really wow 'em!I felt so good afterward. Like I had hit a grand-slam.As the closing prayer ends, a very old man sitting in the front row motioned me down to him. I had to bend down and put my ear to his mouth so I could hear.I just knew he was going to compliment me on teaching such a wonderful class. What he actually said was just four words:"Your fly is open."
mfbukowski Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I did one of those myself once, so you're not alone.
consiglieri Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 Of course, my first thought was, "How long have I been at half-mast?"
consiglieri Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 The only saving grace being I was not teaching about the power of the priesthood.
