I added links to Bill Hamblin's YouTube posts after reading this forum topic.

I unfortunately had to remove links to your Paradigms Regained after discovering that Maxwell Institute redesigned the FARMS website, and the Occasional Papers are no longer available online. Judging by the state of their bookstore titles index, looks like they're not done yet.

I tried for quite a long time to obtain a copy of "The Older Testament" before I finally succeeded:

I was scammed twice by Amazon Marketplace sellers. Amazon Marketplace has a refund guarantee to cover such losses. Unfortunately, they also have a lifetime limit of two claims, so if I deal with an unscrupulous Marketplace seller again, I lose.

I finally received an email from AbeBooks advising that me that the title on my Want List was available, and managed to place the order before any other Want Listers could respond. That was not the first time the title had become available â?? months earlier, I had missed an opportunity when the message was sent hours before I left work and checked my email. The hardcover edition I obtained, in excellent condition, was the review copy that was sent to Enoch scholar James C. VanderKam, who signed the first leaf, and also included 6 sheets of notes in VanderKam's miniscule script. I assume the notes were used in preparing a review.

Only a few weeks later, the current paperback reprint edition was published.

Done for now. Bedtime for the RN who gets up at 2 AM EDT.

Thanks Howard. I've frequently referred people to Thinlyveiled.com. You've done a really nice job.

I do hope that FARMS eventually puts the Occasional Papers back up. I've found it very useful to have them there.

Outside of LDS readership, it seems to me like the Christian scholars who appreciate her work do so because she gives them a Jesus that they can not only believe in as scholars, but can have faith in as Christians. I think that is why the Archbishop of Canterberry recently gave her an honorary doctrate.

Hey Kerry, I'd certainly be happy to see you present at a Barker Conference. It would be fun to see what people come up with.

I've learned a lot since I wrote the first few things. I've shifted my views on Josiah completely. I completely missed that Jacob 4:14 directly points to Josiah and the Reformers. My chapter on Isaiah would have benefited from seeing "Hezekiah's Boil" (aka "The Original Context of the Fourth Servant Song." When I go back and re-read her books, I'm often shocked at what I missed. But there is so much, it takes a while to take it in. And we have to do a lot of rethinking, and re-reading as a consequence. I wouldn't mind going back and updating Paradigms Regained on some points.

Man isn't that the truth!? I am re-reading her as well, and just constantly picking my jaw up off the ground. I definitely believe a conference on her materials would be quite helpful and informative, and I would gladly help put something like that together and make it a reality.

She did speak directly on the Book of Mormon at the Joseph Smith Conference at BYU. An expanded version of that talk was published in BYU Studies. You can find an unofficial transcript linked at www.thinlyveiled.com.

The reason that I ended up collaborating with her for the essay on the forthcoming Terryl Givens and Reid Neilson edited anthology on Reassessing Joseph Smith is that she felt like she has only an amateur knowledge of things LDS. But she has read the LDS scriptures through. After reading a draft of my essay on "Lehi's World and the Scholarship of Margaret Barker" in Glimpses of Lehi's Jerusalem, she decided she'd better read them. She did it in one day and commented that "I was amazed at how much I recognized."

She tells me that regularly gets emails from LDS, including ongoing interaction with several top LDS scholars.
