As a philosophical point if Trump said the sky was blue, I'd go check for myself. As a practical matter even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

You don't have to defend Trump to spot bogus or irrational arguments on one side or the other, (such as a strict immigration policy or country-based travel banamounting to "a manufactured justifciation for religious bigotry).

But I get what you're saying. I just don't think Trump Derangement Syndrome does a great deal of good in the long run.
