I think we should ask is, "What kind of heat can be trapped in an atmosphere that has .0032% CO2. What kind of heat is trapped in an atmosphere that has .004% CO2. What is the difference? Can you even quantify the difference?"

 

Everything right now, appears to say, that it is really quite insignificant. Which, I would agree just judging by how little CO2 is in the atmosphere.

The oceans are by far the largest heat reservoir on Earth, absorbing 93% of global warming, look at the data since 1970. Do you know what the word "absorbing" means?

 

There are a handful of short-term factors that drive changes in surface air temperature, even if CO2 levels are higher, so there is no problem at all.

Of course Earth has been hotter in the distant past. I mean since the recorded data from 1880. Why are you avoiding my question?

 

In what period are the top 4 hottest years, what is more likely according to NASA and NOAA?

A) 1998 - 2014

B) 1880 - 1998

 

Again, I can play the probability games too. Therefore your so-called pause is very unlikely 

As Russell pointed out, since we know the temperature of previous years there should be no probability that one was hotter over the other. Lat year on April 21 in West Jordan Utah the tempture high was 77. April 21 2015 was 74.

 

Was it hotter this year or cooler? There is no probability here. I really don't think you see that you are being played.

I probably did not explain what I am trying to ask you. I know you agree with the warming from 1880 to 1998. 

What I am asking is, the top 4 warmest years are from what period? What is more likely according to NASA and NOAA? 

A) 1998 to 2014

B) 1880 to 1998 

 

 

Why are you not acknowledging that the "warming" oceans don't change the pause in "global" warming when you take all variables into account? \

 

The air surface could be getting colder at the moment because of short term factors.

Still, it is more likely that the top warmest years are after 1998, so where is the pause?

This is about the biggest non answer I have ever heard. This is totally irrelevant. I am asking you guys to quantify "what is too much CO2". When will it actually play a major factor, let alone a factor, in warming? Put some substance to it. No one is asking this question.

I am not avoiding your question.  I have acknowledged the warming from 1880-1998 about a million times on here, are you kidding me?  Again I ask, so what?

 

There has been no pause in global warming.

CO2 traps heat. Over the last 400,000 years there has been a natural variation in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. It varies from 180ppm during ice ages to 280ppm in interglacial periods. We have pushed the CO2ppm concentration to a 400ppm concentration with no end in sight. What do you propose that concentration of CO2 will do?

It is a matter of starting and ending points. it is entirely predictable that the deniers would cherry pick a high starting point and a low ending point. The overall trend is towards more heat.

Sigh, No you have not demonstrated anything let alone "what is too much CO2".

 

What we have seen is that what drives the CO2 in the atmosphere seems to be warming. Warming does not go up when there is more CO2. The CO2 goes up after the warming.

There are no absolute limits in what a minimum concentration and a maximum concentration of CO2 beyond 0% and 100% .IE; Venus is too hot for life as we know it because of the runaway greenhouse effect of relatively too much CO2.  While Mars is too cold for life as we know it because of the relative lack of CO2. Back here on this planet for the last 400,000 years the relative low of CO2 at 180ppm coincides with an ice age while a relative high of 280ppm coincides with a warmer interglacial period like we've had for the last 10,000 years or so.

 

CO2 traps heat. This has been repeatedly confirmed over the last 120 years or so.

Technically correct but misleading. Small changes in insolation do effect earths temperatures. What insolation doesn't account for is what we are experiencing now.

 

YES there is a positive correlation between the relative concentrations of CO2 and temperature. The temperature correlation is about 1.7 degrees C.
