What you really meant to say was that Intelligent designers in labs are starting to figure out through planning and designing that they can build life from scratch. They are playing God in the very sense you state they cant because it would prove ID is correct.

I mean everything that is held popular by science could be true. But abiogensis has it's own issues and as such is not something I can subscribe to.

Also ID is by it own definition is an Teleological argument where any God or Godlike force can be used. I seriously doubt that the IDers would claim a divine Shiva as their God.
