Professional Antimormons' Efforts: Do They Achieve Their Aims?

The church certainly thought it important to "spoon feed" me the Urim and Thummin story, BY's polygamy, persecution of the saints, etc. These were all taught on multiple occassions as part of the teachers manual and church education material....I likely spent many dozen's, if not hundreds, of hours during my time in the church discussing such things, but not one second to spare to discuss the use of peepstones/head in a hat translation method, Joseph Smith's polygamy, etc.

Whining gets old quickly. Like many people today they know only what they are told and never are interested in what they have to put in at least minimal effort to learn on their own.

Reminds of the fast food workers that want $15 an hour; no education and a job that can be learned in a couple of days yet they want big $ for getting my orders wrong half the time.

While it is true that Anti-mormon efforts actually bring many to the church and keep many in it, I would say over-all their efforts are effective.

Those efforts are affective in keeping people in a box.

 

First you have the Christian or other religious person who is taught anti-mormonism, and because they don't get the other side, they simply entirely believe it, and it becomes almost impossible to teach them the actual truth, because after all, mormons are evil, liars, Joseph was a pedophile, false prophet, etc.  After all, why give ANY time to something that is so clearly "made-up" by a con-man?

 

Then you have the non-religious who see anti-mormonism, and again, why give ANY time to something that is so clearly "made-up" by a con-man?

Thus, they also simply believe anti-mormonism.

 

Sadly few in the world are patient observers and study'ers of the greatest things in life to find the actual truth.  And even many of those, whatever most "attracts" them, is appealing to them, that is what they most focus on, so even many of those don't even find the truth, they also are stuck in a particular box.  Of course, not to say even Mormons aren't all along all the various levels, for they are.  However, because the way the religion is designed to be open, accepting and searching for truth from "all" sources, it's a bit more reflective for those who pursue what is truth.  Most other religions are Bible Alone for truth, Mormonism is more open, thus a Mormon even if born into the faith is trained to seek truth from where-ever it comes, that scripture alone doesn't contain all truth, and especially the Bible alone.  Other religions are thus more "closed", building borders based on the individuals ideology instead of the collective actual truth in all things.
