Nofear Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 MinutePhysics has a very nice video explaining why "The Big Bang" is really a rather misleading name (science is chalk full of them). And while I don't share all of his opinions his exposition is sound and very addressable to the lay individual. minutephysics: Science, Religion, and the Big Bang And just for fun, here is an older video (10 months ago) that is also a good explanation of Olbers' Paradox (minutephysics: Why is it Dark at Night?)
thesometimesaint Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) Very good. Of interest is that the term Big Bang wasn't given to it by the originators of the ideas behind it, but by a famous detractor Fred Hoyle. The name stuck but the ideas of Hoyle were rejected. Kinda like the early Saints were disparagingly called Mormons. We took the name and made it our own while the names of the detractors are lost to history. Edited August 25, 2013 by thesometimesaint
