sunstoned Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 As we say here in America, Alan -- BULLSEYE!I believe that Adam and Even left the garden around 6,000 years ago. We know from the temple that man was not found upon the earth before our first parents were placed in the garden. We also know that death entered the human race with the fall. Without the fall there could be no atonement.I cannot reconcile what science claims with what scripture teaches. Therefore I have to choose. I am a trained scientist myself (I work as an ecologist) and I understand scientific method quite well. I also understand the limitations of scientific enquiry and the liberal use of various untested assumptions in formulating scientific theories.I therefore make a conscious decision to put my faith in scripture, confident that all will one day be revealed.Given the overwheming evidence, you much have a whole lot of faith.
cdowis Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 It is entirely possible for horses to have lived in isolated pockets in Nephite times and locations.Yes, but it is also possible if horses did live in areas which did not have the suitable conditions for fossilization. Just curious, how many fossils of bison have archeologists discovered during the BOM time period. This would give us some measure of the probability.
thesometimesaint Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I guess that would depend on which areas you would define as isolated pockets where the Nephites lived.Absolutely. The Church doesn't make any claims as to where the Nephites lived. Given the range of speculated regions in the Americas. It is entirely possible for isolated pockets of horses to have lived along side of Nephites.

It was many years before horse bones, and gear were found corresponding to the horse cultures of Eurasia. It was just assumed that they rode horses.I don't know if any have or have not been discovered for the Nephite time period.
cdowis Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I don't know if any have or have not been discovered for the Nephite time period.Horse fossils have been found in a cave dating to the Mayans, but there is still controversy on the dating of the fossils themselves.
thesometimesaint Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Horse fossils have been found in a cave dating to the Mayans, but there is still controversy on the dating of the fossils themselves.I have heard that. Call it a maybe. I await further confirmation before I'll list it as evidence for the BoM.
