DavidB Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 (edited) Does anyone find it odd that what could be pornography and alcohol consumption are used to promote City Creek Center? One advert depicts a woman in shoulder-less dress.Another depicts a woman in a form fitting backless dress.Another depicts alcohol consumption.I have two ideas:First, the parable of the talents.Second, the statement from BYU food services department about providing those things for which there is a demand for.As to the first, non-compustion of alcohol is something that applies to the members of the Church, so it does not seem completely odd to use alcohol consumption to promote. On the other hand, modesty/walking pornography/pornography all seems, to me, to be messages to be applied to all.As to the second, well, I suppose it is just good business sense to provide ones patrons with what they want.Elder Oaks, General Conference April 2005 "Pornograpy": And young women, please understand that if you dress immodestly, you are magnifying this problem by becoming pornography to some of the men who see you. DavidB Posted December 8, 2012 Author Posted December 8, 2012 (edited) I don't see what the problem is.Do you support the Church position that strapless or backless dresses are immodest?Do you support the Church position that form fitting attire should not be worn or is immodest? Nathair/|\ Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Do you support the Church position that strapless or backless dresses are immodest?Do you support the Church position that form fitting attire should not be worn or is immodest? As far as I can tell, that's only for the Saints, especially those who are bound by temple covenants. These would not be pornographic, though, for anyone.

Sky Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I believe the actual owner of City Creek is Taubman properties, not the Church. I could be wrong, though. Maybe somebody could confirm that for us. In any case, the Church doesn't control everything that happens there. I don't think that was ever the intention. Any private, for-profit business will have certain aspects that aren't congruent with church teachings. It is a shopping center, after all. And personally, I like City Creek and think it's pretty awesome. Salt Lake City should be grateful for what the Church has done. And I believe the Church when they say no tithing funds were used to build it. FYI, see Downtown Rising 2
mfbukowski Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I understand that they even let you shop there if you don't have a temple recommend.I don't know what this world is coming to. 3
