JeremyOrbe-Smith Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 :( Such a bummer. RIP, Mr. Cross. Thanks for all your work!
Robert F. Smith Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Following in the footsteps of his great teacher, William F. Albright, Cross was a synthesizer. I especially like his Canaanite Myth and Hebrew Epic, as well as his Epic to Canon.Cross was very kind and respectful toward Mormons. He and David Noel Freedman came to BYU together on several occasions, delivered speeches, and answered endless questions with great patience and good humor. 2
WalkerW Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Cross was pretty influential in my understanding of covenants: http://theslowhunch.blogspot.com/2012/10/frank-moore-cross-1921-2012.html 1
volgadon Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 Cross was pretty influential in my understanding of covenants: http://theslowhunch....-1921-2012.htmlThat essay on covenants is amazing, even in the extremely brief review of it which I first read in an issue of BAR. For those who haven't read it, From Epic to Canon has even more really amazing insights that could be applied to the BoM, such as rivers being the place of judgment.
Kerry A. Shirts Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 He was a great scholar, the blight on his career being so involved in the silly "orthodox" stance concerning the Dead Sea Scrolls which may not very well be accurate at all. But time will give us the full accuracy as more is learned...... I LOVED most of his work.....
