inquiringmind Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 (edited) My knowledge of the Dead Sea scrolls is probably way out of date now, and I was just wondering how much has been published, and what's in there. Were they ever able to piece together the whole book of Daniel from the scraps they found in cave 4 (specifically, can it be proven that Daniel 9:26 was written before the birth of Christ)? How much of the fulness of the Gospel (the plain and precious things that were taken from the Hebrew Bible) can be found in the Dead Sea scrolls? Can the new birth, baptism for the remission of sins, and the atonement be found in the writings of the dead sea scroll community? And what about the plurality of Gods?Volgadon?? volgadon Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Very good questions. Give me a few minutes, unless anyone else answers.
volgadon Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Unfortunately, a quick look at my copy of the "Dead Sea Scrolls Bible" shows Daniel 9:26 among the missing fragments, but I see no strong reason to believe it post dates Christ's birth.
volgadon Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 David Larsen has written some interesting things on the DSS and LDS topics. http://www.heavenlyascents.com/2009/03/09/orson-hyde-the-dead-sea-scrolls-and-the-hierarchy-of-the-gods/ Follow the tags. I promise to post more, but one important theme in the DSS is that of deification.
theplains Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 How much of the fulness of the Gospel (the plain and precious things that were taken from the Hebrew Bible) can be found in the Dead Sea scrolls? What specific things are you hoping to find in the Dead Sea scrolls and are these things in the Book of Mormon? Thanks,Jim
