The health profession has wisely instituted screening strategies to detect ailments, like cancer, early on so as to minimize the spread and harm caused by the ailments, thus helping to ensure that the body and its members remain strong. Interventions resulting from the early screenings may then be used to strengthen the afflicted member of the body, and make it well, which in turn strengthens the body as a whole. It is addressed there. Your bishop may help you to understand. Me: Huh?Even if the SCMC is practicing an early detection screening to protect the body of the saints, it isn't coming up in my TR interviews. From your post, it seems you are saying that simply weeding out heretics and apostates benefits the whole of church membership. If the TR question is designed to accomplish this weeding out, why is there a need for the SCMC? And if the TR questions isn't weeding out the, um, undesirables and the SCMC is necessary, how does it benefit the average member to be asked about affiliating with opposing groups if such are never defined and named in the interview and it's left to individual conscience and/or personal revelation?I blame those damn Utah Mormons. Hmmm ... isn't that the group that keeps track of gripes people have about Damn Utah Mormons so that the Brethren can then target the DUMs in their general conference sermons?

One objective of the committee is to find out those who are *teaching, expounding* false doctrine. In many cases, they are either directly or indirectly attempting to find converts to their false doctrines -- proselytizing, rather than quietly mumbling to themselves. In some cases they have created their own cult of believers within the church.I find it interesting that some individuals may have been snoring away when the question about apostate groups was asked. "No, I'm not a polygamist."It's not just talking about polygamy, you know.Anyway, I was addressing the question on how this committee helps individual members, and not just the church in general. We give our apostates callings and call it a reactivation effort. Didn't President Holland say the SCMC was just about polygamy in The Mormon Candidate? (I don't remember...)
