Jeff K. Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Jeff K.:Thought you might like this.http://maxwellinstit...nscripts/?id=67Pretty well reasoned argument.Thanks
blueadept Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 One could argue he was a faithful Catholic (ie faithful to the doctrine not necessarily the leadership) until such point that he lost faith in the doctrine of papal infallibility. You realize that 'papal infallibility' only applies to when the pope talks about issues on faith and morals right??
Jeff K. Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Yes, but it was used as a cudgel by the Vatican in the past when it attempted to control Europe's destiny.
blueadept Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Yes, but it was used as a cudgel by the Vatican in the past when it attempted to control Europe's destiny.I figured there must of been a 'bad Pope' that was associated with Luther's time so even though the Pope didn't change anything in regards to faith or morals, he was definitely a 'bad Pope'.Leo X (Pope from 1513 - 1521)Louis XIV had nothing on this man. Extravagant to the max, his lavish spending managed to bankrupt the papacy in just two short years. Once he realized that he was broke, he spent the rest of his time at St. Peter's pawning off palace furnishings and licensing more brothel's to keep the party going. Fat, sweaty, and effeminate, on the plus side he was known to be very kind, jolly, and a big supporter of charities and the arts. Even so, it was Leo's lifestyle that encouraged an obscure man named Marin Luther to write 95 Thesis and nail them up on a church door in Wittenburg. Oops, glad you had fun, Leo. Sorry about the whole "starting of the reformation" thing.
thesometimesaint Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 History is littered with such, of all religions, and nonreligions.
Ares Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 This thread has come full circle. If you want to start one to discuss Papal or Prophetic inerrancy or doctrinal similarities/differences between the Catholic and Mormon religions go ahead. It could be interesting but I will insist it be respectful of all traditions.
