Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, 22 and 23 September 1832

3 Which city shall be ^abuilt, beginning at the ^btemple lot, which is appointed by the finger of the Lord, in the western boundaries of the State of Missouri, and ^cdedicated by the hand of Joseph Smith, Jun., and others with whom the Lord was well pleased.

4 Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city ^aNew Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which ^btemple shall be ^creared in this ^dgeneration.

I find this confusing.

The heading says the prophecy was given in Kirtland Ohio.

Verse 3 talks about the Temple lot in western Missouri.

And verse 4 speaks of "this place."

Where is "this place"?

The Temple Lot (in Western Missouri), or Kirtland Ohio (where the prophecy was given)?

I'd say Kirtland, because that is where "the gathering of the saints" began.

It might be helpful to note that there were two church centers for a large part of the early history of the church: One in Missouri and one in Ohio.
