mfbukowski Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Creativity is often tied to high intelligence in man. I would assume that what amounts to infinite intelligence (forever expanding) would also be tied to infinite creativity. That"s what I think.I know I would be bored if I could not come up with new ideas or see things in new ways. Many people, myself included LOVE to do "creative problem solving". Did Edison "know" about the light bulb before he invented it? Clearly not, but he certainly did "know" later. So is ex nihilo creation actually in conflict with God's omniscience? It depends on how you look at it I suppose. I suppose creedal Christians might believe that God had the blueprints all worked out beforehand which is what Genesis implies, in the "two creations" point of view, and I suppose technically we believe that God being a God of natural laws means he is bound by them. But in my view, God is "self-determined" which means that he has created natural law, and voluntarily accepts to be bound by the laws he has created. It is precisely the same as if we decided to go on a diet, and actually sticking to it perfectly. When we voluntarily accept any commandment as applying to ourselves, and then actually observe the commandment, I think we are in a small way following what God does. I recall when I quit smoking before I joined the church, I was reading D&C with the intention that I would accept each commandment (even though I knew what was coming) as it was "revealed " to me in the text.I finally got to the word of wisdom, I knew it was coming, and though an avid coffee drinker and tobacco user when I read that, I threw away the coffee and actually tossed all my tobacco products up onto the roof to kind of symbolize me throwing away the habits. It worked. I let them rot there, and seeing them deteriorating helped reinforce my decision. Every stage of deterioration became a step farther away from my old self. But I think that is what God does- he is infinitely creative and makes his own rules, and when he has, he voluntarily submits to the rules he has made, so that is the way I reconcile God submitting to natural law, and yet being infinitely creative.
