ERayR Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 In many cases I would agree with you, but I think that some people exaggerate some forms of wrongdoing either in judging themselves or in judging others. Also I think in the case of children and ultimately understanding the need for baptism or the lack of the need, it is essential to understand the distinction in a religious setting (I think it does exist myself).I think there are other cases where it is important to understand the difference (as in Eve and Adam's actions to understand their impaction us and why it occurred). As stated above I think there is no distinction in a religious setting. Obviously in a secular setting sin is not a relevent term. What is the difference both sinned both transgressed God's commands, ergo both sinned.
Log Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 You believe that children sin?If they yield to the temptations of the devil then they sin.
Calm Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 (edited) I am sorry if it comes across as badgering, but I am trying to understand your point of view....When I say children, I mean those under the age of eight that we generally talk about as not accountable.Since you believe children (assuming we are using it the same way) can be tempted by Satan, etc, what is the difference between them and adults (over the age of eight) such that the Lord gives them a pass on the necessity of baptism? If I am confused and you meant only those eight and older, what would you call the wrongdoing of those underage so to speak? zerinus Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 You believe that children sin?Children can sin, but they are not held accountable for their sins until they reach the age of accountability:Mosiah 3:16 And even if it were possible that little children could sin they could not be saved; but I say unto you they are blessed; for behold, as in Adam, or by nature, they fall, even so the blood of Christ atoneth for their sins.If children could not sin at all, what would they be "repenting" of when they are baptized as the age of eight? And what "remission of sins" would they be receiving?

Do all children uniformly become accountable to God at age 8? That has not been definitively stated in the scriptures, but as the post above mine points out, accountability must precede baptism. As for them who cannot be tempted by the devil yet do that which is considered wrong, I think I would call that "doing a no-no." I mean, what else could it be called? Edited November 13, 2011 by Log
orion88 Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Because they're children. They don't know it's wrong. But you still haven't addressed the fact that the Savior has commanded us to become as little children (you conveniently omitted that part from my statement you quoted). What do you think that means? Wouldn't that imply that little children are pure and innocent, which is what we too need to become?I found a good article that explains this:http://www.jesuswalk...ns/18_15-17.htmWhat characteristic of children is Jesus pointing to as an essential characteristic of disciples?Several possibilities have been mentioned: 1) Innocence 2) Openness, trust, and receptivity3) Humility. But even while they are born into the world they suffer the effects of the Fall as I mentionedbefore.
ERayR Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 You believe that children sin?I believe thay are not accountable until the age of 8. Children are given eight years to learn right from wrong and parents are given eight years to teach them before being held accountable. I believe children come into the world innocent and by experience learn to discern the difference.
