So I don't get the whole works and faith argument myself..To me, part of the whole "works and faith" argument is a consequence of differing views of salvation and what all is required to affect that salvation.Some view salvation as simply being saved from sin. And, of those who view salvation in this way, a portion consider salvation from sin as consisting solely of Christ's atoning sacrifice and faith in him. Others consider salvation from sin as consisting also of repentance, baptism, and sanctification by the Holy Spirit, and obedience to God.Some view salvation to also include being saved from ignorance. For many, this salvation comes by the works of following the path set forth by Christ, and gaining eternal life by coming to know him and his Father through doing the works he has done and commanded us to do, growing from grace to grace in light and truth and righteousness.Stil others view salvation as further including being saved from physical death, which is promised universally to all the Father's children who have entered mortality. Through his death and resurrection, Christ has enabled us to be saved from the grave. All that is dependent upon us is determining the type of "mansion" (resurrected glory) he will prepare for us in his Father's house in accordance with our works.Thanks, -Wade Englund-
Anakin7 Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 (edited) The entire verse reads: "For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do."What Nephi means by "all we can do" is "believe in Christ" and "be reconciled to God." True or the "all we can do" refers to them keeping the Law of Moses with True Faith in Christ's future sacrifice for them in the surrounding verses.
