Forgiveness In This Life And The Life To Come

Recommended Posts

I've been asked to teach on the subject of the Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood. I'm seeking to understand verse 41 of section 84:"But whoso breaketh this covenant after he received it,and all together turneth therefrom, shall not have forgiveness of sins in this world nor in the world to come."

I believe Bruce R. McConkie taught that is is not to be interpreted that those who have forsaken their obligations conveyed in the covenant are to be as the sons of perdition, but never the less will have forsaken their chance of higher exaltation that would have been available had they remained true to the obligations in the covenant.

This seems to me a partial damnation. Never the less the person who broke the covenant could progress through repentance and the Grace of Christ and better their condition their in.

Though I respect Elder BRM, he is not an infallible teacher, and I'm interested in what other faithful priesthood holders have to say on the subject.
