Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 No one has ever been turned away from an LDS meeting house or refused Baptism for disobedience to the Word of Wisdom. Even the Temple recommend question about the Word of Wisdom does not delve into specifics and is completely dependent on voluntary compliance and answers. This is not true. If a person does not live the WoW, mainly abstain from Coffee or Tea, or alcohol, or smoking, they cannot be baptized. If you are doing these things after you are baptized you will not get a temple recommend unless you lie about it. When asked "Do you keep the Wow". Tell them you smoke, and see if you get a recommend. However you will not ever be turned away from an LDS meeting house for any reason, unless of course you are being purposefully disruptive.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) I happened to have my annual physical a couple of days ago, and my doctor said that for optimum health, I should have one drink a day. He said red wine is the best, but a cocktail is better than nothing. Here is an article that expresses his view:Time Magazine: Why Do Heavy Drinkers Outlive Nondrinkers? (8/31/2010)I am not really interested in this. If you just drink grape juice you basically get the same benefit. And I am not sure that "heavy drinkers outlive nondrinkers" is really that accurate. When you get need to get a liver transplant from "heavy drinking" don't come whining to me about it and say, "Well, this Time article told us that heavy drinking is great for your health". This stuff appears to be the same kind of propaganda of yesteryear about how great smoking really is.On the other side of the coin, I have no issue if something, say, tea, is actually found to be the most healthy thing on earth, I have no issue abstaining from it solely because I believe that God has asked me (lds people) not to drink it. So it comes down to an obedience issue.Apparently sitting 6-8 hrs our more increases your chance for colon cancer.http://weightology.net/weightologyweekly/?page_id=665Even if true I am tired about hearing about it. Just living causes cancer. Edited August 24, 2011 by Mola Ram Suda Ram
Calm Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 This is not true. If a person does not live the WoW, mainly abstain from Coffee or Tea, or alcohol, or smoking, they cannot be baptized. FYI, there are certain circumstances were exceptions are made, in one case a man was baptized though he was a smoker because it was part of his pain management and his doctors said it would be too stressful on his body for him to quit. He was baptized and died three months later....wonderful man, he was an inspiration on how he dealt with his health issues without being overcome with despair. Also a person does not have to demonstrate that the probability that they will never smoke, etc. again is very high prior to being baptized. They have to demonstrate that they are committed to the principle even if they are not yet to the point where they will likely be able to always abstain.

I did not mean to imply we baptize people who do not intend to live the Word of Widsom.
