Contra the author of the wiki article, Darwinism has been attempting to address God, and pretty much everything else, as to matters of both ultimate origins and the question of teleology (or the utter lack thereof) since the 19th century. The wedding of evolutionary theory with rationalism, positivism, and the idolatry of secular humanism is complete, but the theory itself does not appear to require such a union (many within the scientific community, however, (Huxley, Dawkins, Sagan, and many others over time) believe that it does).

The meaning of "Darwinism" has changed over time, and varies depending on who is using the term.

I would use the term Darwinian fundamentalism as a succinct term for its scientistic manifestation, a manifestation that, unfortunately, long ago came to dominate much of the natural sciences and popular notions within our ever more secularized culture.
